DOTA ESL Thailand Betting Preview

I have written a Guide to Dota2 Betting which I recommend to anyone not familiar with this title, genre, and those interested in eventually being able to find value in this game on their own…or just to decipher the gibberish spoken by the analysts on stream!

All of a sudden we are back to another ESL Dota2 tournament! You might recall this TO moved both two big events online when COVID shutdown the lan circuit, the ESL Los Angeles Major and ESL Birmingham. We had excellent returns from both, ESL LA was the best esports tourny of the year for me in fact at about 50 units of profit, and we will look to have positive returns once more.

Today, August 8th, the North American portion of the tournament starts. It features an eight team field with organizations you should all be familiar with at this point. The only exception is perhaps Gorillaz Pride, a Peruvian squad that qualified as a nicely priced underdog of around +200 through a best-of-five upset over Omega. However the rest are familiar faces, you got your Quincy Crews, Crazys, Business Associates, 4Zoomers all from the North American side followed by the two South American clubs in Thunder Predator and Beastcoast. Infamous rounds out the eight.

The group stage is a seven day round robin of, thank you so much, best-of-threes! Can always count on ESL not to mess around with the annoying best-of-twos. Additionally, while there is an upper and lower-bracket in the playoffs, all teams which qualify will begin in the upper-bracket, the top four from the groups. The match days are not everyday but spread out over the final three weeks of August.

Today I am starting off the campaign backing a couple of favorites. The BA/Infamous price was the one that seemed more ‘off’ so if you don’t have access to the kill spreads can take BA on the moneyline for 2% stake instead. Matches begin at 1pm eastern daily! Just like with the CSGO, there won’t be the daily articles anymore, however if I bother to do an esports tournament preview you can be sure I will follow through with the rest of the tournament on Twitter and Discord. The Asia portion of the tournament will get started on August 20 and looks to follow much of the same format but with two groups instead. Will post when we have some lines for it.
