Open Championship Odds 2023: McIlroy Still Favored Over Rahm, Scheffler, Smith

Rory McIlroy will lead the golf world back to the site of his 2014 Open Championship victory in mid-July as the oldest major returns to Royal Liverpool. Read on as we break down the 2023 Open Championship odds with some early names to target.
Following last year's disappointing third-place finish at St Andrews, McIlroy is once again the betting favorite to claim his second Claret Jug. To do so, he'll need to fend off Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, who each rank ahead of McIlroy in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Reigning Champion Golf of the Year Cameron Smith will look to be the first active member of the LIV Golf Invitational Series to win a major.
Read on as we preview the 2023 Open Championship odds and break down the favorites, contenders, and long shots (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and PointsBet).

Open Championship odds analysis
FanDuel is the best place to go for early Open Championship odds as it offers the best price on several notable contenders near the top of the oddsboard. However, FanDuel is offering a horrible outlier number of +3300 on Tiger Woods compared to the +7000 found elsewhere.
There are several other notable names, including Rickie Fowler, who have odds posted for them at some sportsbooks but not yet at DraftKings or FanDuel, as they haven't yet gained official entry to the event.
Open Championship odds movement
Scheffler's Open Championship odds have seen the biggest adjustment since the calendar flipped to 2023. He was offered with odds around +1600 in early January but the best price available in late March is the +1400 from PointsBet with other sports betting sites offering outright odds as low as +900 for the No. 1 golfer in the world.
Former Champion Golfer of the Year Jordan Spieth has seen his odds come down nearly across the board as well.
Open Championship odds 2023: Favorites
Rory McIlroy (+900)
McIlroy will try to put the pain of his collapse at St Andrews last summer behind him when returning to the site of his two-stroke victory over Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia in the 143rd Open Championship. The Open is the only one of 2023's four majors in which McIlroy is still favored over Rahm and Scheffler on the consensus odds after giving up the No. 1 spot in the OWGR.
Open Championship odds 2023: Contenders
Jordan Spieth (+2000)
Spieth is in excellent form early in 2023 and will surely become a popular bet as the Open Championship approaches. The Open was his third career major win in 2017 at Royal Birkdale. Links-style venues won't penalize him in the same way as most American PGA Tour stops for his occasionally wayward driver.
Open Championship odds 2023: Long shots
Rickie Fowler (+12500)
Not all of our top sports betting sites are yet offering early Open Championship odds on Fowler as he's not guaranteed an invite and is yet to officially qualify. However, these odds will drop considerably if he's able to do so, as he tied for second at Royal Liverpool in 2014 to go with finishes of T-5 (2017) and T-6 (2019) in The Open.
Open Championship odds 2023: Fade
Cameron Smith (+1600)
Smith will become a popular Open Championship bet as the event draws near. However, I'm not ready to back anyone who'll be rejoining the top fields in golf after departing for the LIV series. These odds are suppressed due to Smith's status as the reigning champion and won't properly reflect his current form, or lack thereof.
Open Championship odds 2023: Tiger Woods (+7000)

Tiger finished alone in 29th at Royal Liverpool in 2014; however, he won at this same venue in 2006. He's a three-time Open Champion and the oldest major generally caters the best to older golfers. The 47-year-old is an appealing target to capture his 16th major championship at the elevated number via Caesars and PointsBet. Pay no attention to the +3300 offered by FanDuel.
