MLB Rookie of the Year Odds & Favorites 2024: Skenes is Him, Langford Leads AL
It's Paul Skenes' world, and we're just living in it. The Pittsburgh Pirates phenom is a runaway freight train by the NL Rookie of the Year odds at our best MLB betting sites, while the AL race is much more tightly contested.
Judging by the Rookie of the Year odds, the NL race is, well, no longer a race.
Paul Skenes is as short as -1200, odds which come with an implied probability of 92.31% that he'll win this award. At one point, it seemed impossible that Skenes would be able to make up the ground on fellow rookie pitchers Shota Imanaga and Yoshinobu Yamamoto due to his delayed debut, but he's a massive favorite only two months later.
There is at least a competitive race in the AL, though. Following a dreadful start, Wyatt Langford has played well following his return from the IL, and he's once again the favorite - just as he was before the season started. Following closely behind him is New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil.

AL Rookie of the Year odds analysis
July 21, 2024: Not long after we solved Mason Miller's Rookie of the Year eligibility in mid-June, a new favorite emerged at our best sportsbooks.
Langford holds a slight lead over Gil before a steep dropoff in the odds, and he's maintaining that position while regularly raking.
He's jumped from around +350 to as short as +120. Langford cooled off a bit in early July before the All-Star break, but he's holding on to his perch atop the board on the strength of a sizzling June when he slashed .309/.368/.526.
Meanwhile, Gil's stretch of three straight starts allowing four-plus earned runs (including a worst of seven) led to a fall down the board to rest behind Langford. However, he rebounded well, giving up just two earned runs across his 12 2/3 innings over two starts before the All-Star break, a run that included 16 strikeouts and just one walk.

NL Rookie of the Year odds analysis
July 21, 2024: Skenes isn't just beating the field. He's lapped it several times.
He's now trading at around a laughable -1000 through our best sportsbooks, which leads to an implied probability of 90.91%.
Skenes is overpowering everyone en route to an astronomical 12.1 K/9. He's allowed more than two earned runs just twice over 11 starts so far and boasts a shining 1.90 ERA.
There's a chasm between Skenes and the field. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the runaway favorite in this market for nearly a month earlier in the season, but he's fallen out of consideration following an injury to his rotator cuff.
Jackson Merril is the only other NL rookie listed below +2000, and in any other season, he'd be receiving serious consideration, especially after the San Diego Padres outfielder erupted during June, clubbing nine home runs and slashing .320/.346/.651.
