Perhaps no award in professional sports is more indicative of the future than Rookie of the Year. That's no different in Major League Baseball, as a number of today's brightest stars were once honored as the league's top rookies. Here are our top picks for the 2023 MLB Rookie of the Year awards based on the best baseball odds.

We're over a month into the MLB season, and a number of rookies have already made their mark. Some of the league's top teams feature impressive freshmen, and those performances are being recognized in the oddsboard.

Many things have changed since the preseason version of this article, but the one thing that hasn't is that I'm still targeting players with superstar intangibles. For hitters, that's the ultra-valuable combination of power and speed. Home runs and stolen bases are sexy, especially when it comes to handing out awards. For pitchers, that's stuff: I want a big fastball and something nasty to mix with it.

With that in mind, here is our look at the best odds for the 2023 Rookie of the Year winner in the American and National leagues, and our top picks.

AL Rookie of the Year odds analysis

PointsBet is still the only one of our best sportsbooks without a Rookie of the Year market.

FanDuel has the majority of the best prices for AL Rookie of the Year contenders, including a truly outlandish +1500 on Josh Jung.

Masataka Yoshida is now as short as +110 at DraftKings, making his preseason price of +1000 extremely valuable.

Caesars features some of the shortest odds for the top 10 rookies.

AL Rookie of the Year odds movement

Gunnar Henderson continues to tumble down the oddsboard. He was the preseason consensus favorite and is now at risk of falling outside the top 10.

Taj Bradley and Tanner Bibee emerged as contenders, but it's Seattle Mariners stud Bryce Miller who owns the shortest odds among AL rookie pitchers.

Anthony Volpe's odds have somehow lengthened despite the fact that he's gotten better during the last two weeks. I was fading him but now I'm interested in adding him to my portfolio at +1000.

AL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Favorite

Masataka Yoshida (+140 via Caesars)

Yoshida has thus far proven how valuable experience can be for an MLB rookie. The seven-year veteran of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball has shown great plate discipline to start his career with the Red Sox. He owns a 10% walk rate to an impressive 10% strikeout rate, and he ranks sixth among rookies in wRC+.

The outfielder has hit mostly right in the heart of Boston's lineup, and his counting stats have benefited from it. He ranks second among rookies with 24 RBIs and fourth with 23 runs.

Yoshida has six home runs and two stolen bases already, and those counting stats will play well with his elite rates.

Other rookies have emerged thanks to impressive runs, but Yoshida is still my favorite to take home the award.

AL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Contender

Josh Jung (+1500 via FanDuel)

I was tempted to put Volpe here, but Jung's rogue price at FanDuel keeps him in the discussion.

Jung has cooled down following a scorching-hot start to May, but he still ranks first among all rookies in home runs and RBIs. He's part of a powerhouse Rangers offense that will only get better when Corey Seager returns from the injured list.

The third baseman certainly has the pedigree to back his impressive numbers, as he was among the preseason favorites and slid down the oddsboard throughout April due to a slow start. However, he's back near the top and is worth a bet at this price considering he's as short as +500 at Caesars.

AL Rookie of the Year odds: Long shot

Esteury Ruiz (+4000 via BetMGM)

The biggest question mark with Esteury Ruiz entering the season was whether he could hit. He's more or less answered that question with a decent start to the season at the plate, but it's his trademark blistering speed that interests me.

Ruiz was among the preseason favorites to lead the majors in stolen bases, and he's answered the bell by pacing the league.

The rookie became the first player in the majors to steal 20 bases on May 16, and he's nabbing bags at a historical rate.

I have a hard time seeing Ruiz not getting significant Rookie of the Year love if he continues to steal bases the way he has in the early stages of the season.

AL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Fade

Taj Bradley (+2300 via FanDuel)

Yes, I have stopped fading Volpe. Instead, I'll turn my attention to another rookie in the AL East.

The Tampa Bay Rays sent Bradley back down to the minors after an impressive run with the big-league club. The Rays are in desperate need of starters, but there's one big problem: Bradley has been destroyed by minor-league hitting since getting sent back down.

In three Triple-A starts following his early promotion, Bradley has allowed a combined 16 earned runs in nine innings. He's also not striking anyone out, recording just five punchouts in those innings.

Between the fact that he's still in the minors and the Rays have already shown they aren't willing to give him a full major-league workload, Bradley is an easy fade as long as he remains in the top 10 on the oddsboard.

NL Rookie of the Year odds analysis

Caesars ... woof. Among our best sports betting sites, Caesars stands out as the true outlier in terms of some of its prices. St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker is buried in the minors and accordingly priced at +4000 to +5000 at three of our other best MLB betting sites. However, he's trading at a bizarre +2800 at Caesars. Meanwhile, it also has market-low prices on Miguel Vargas, Spencer Steer, Eury Perez (a ridiculous +1800), and Matt Mervis.

Additionally, as it did in the AL market, Caesars has excluded a major contender from its offerings.

Meanwhile, FanDuel offers some of the best odds across the board.

NL Rookie of the Year odds movement

Not much has changed at the top, as James Outman and Corbin Carroll are still the favorites at all of our best sports betting apps.

The recently called-up Matt Mervis, Eury Perez, and Matt McLain all find themselves in the top 10.

NL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Favorite

Corbin Carroll (+200 via DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars)

As was the case before the season started and throughout the first month, Carroll is still my favorite bet to win this award.

His 10 steals rank fourth among rookies, and his 124 wRC+ is the seventh-best mark in the class. He's also accrued 1.0 WAR, the third-most among rookies.

Outman has been better thus far, but I prefer Carroll's skill set and ceiling over the Dodgers outfielder's.

NL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Contender

Brett Baty (+850 via BetMGM)

There was some early skepticism regarding Brett Baty's ability to become a real contender in this market, as the New York Mets chose to send him to the minors to begin the season. However, Eduardo Escobar forced their hand by being one of the worst third basemen in the league. And thank goodness he did.

The only issue with Baty is he's regularly sitting against left-handed starting pitchers. However, an injury or a hot week could change that, and he has a clear path to the heart of the Mets' lineup with multiple New York hitters struggling.

NL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Long shot

Miguel Vargas (+2500 via DraftKings, FanDuel)

Don't look now, but the Dodgers rookie who was getting all the preseason hype is heating up. Miguel Vargas has shot up both the rookie WAR leaderboard and this oddsboard thanks to his elite patience at the plate.

Vargas isn't hitting the ball especially hard yet, but he's trending in the right direction.

The Dodgers rookie ranks sixth in runs and fourth in RBIs among rookies, and his counting stats should continue to rise thanks to his placement in an always strong L.A. lineup.

NL Rookie of the Year odds 2023: Fade

James Outman (+170 via FanDuel)

It's not that I think Outman can't win the award, but his price is just a bit too short for me, and I have room for only one player in this price range.

Outman's Statcast data also suggests he's due for some regression. Pair that with the fact that Steamer projects him to be much more human for the rest of the season, and I'm skeptical he can continue to play well enough to make any sense at this very short price.
