PGA Championship 2023 Odds: Scheffler, Rahm Favored Over McIlroy

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm were each quick to pick up their first two (or more) wins of 2023. As such, they're now the favorites by the PGA Championship odds, ahead of Rory McIlroy and defending champion Justin Thomas.
For the first time since 2013, Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., will host the PGA Championship. The second major of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season will take place in mid-May. It was announced Thursday, Feb. 23, that golfers from the LIV Golf Invitational Series will be able to take part.
Several contenders for this year's event played in the 2013 PGA Championship. Those include Adam Scott (T-5), Dustin Johnson (T-8), Rory McIlroy (T-8), and Hideki Matsuyama (T-19). Jason Day, Zach Johnson, Marc Leishman, Rickie Fowler, and Webb Simpson also participated. Tiger Woods finished in a tie for 40th, while Jason Dufner edged out Jim Furyk for the Wanamaker Trophy.

PGA Championship odds analysis
With less early betting action than the Masters or other marquee futures events, the PGA Championship odds are fairly consistent across our best sportsbooks this far out from the year's second major. FanDuel and BetMGM are offering the most competitive prices on most names at the top of the oddsboard, though the former also has the most conservative prices on Scheffler and McIlroy as two of the most-heavily bet golfers in this market.
Of note, DraftKings still doesn't have odds available for golfers from the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
PGA Championship odds movement
When looking to bet on the futures odds for golf majors, it's key to track the Masters odds and bet the other three majors accordingly. The PGA Championship odds are much slower to move than the Masters pricing, and that's to the gain of bettors and golf fans.
Odds for the PGA Championship also weren't available quite as early as the Masters odds. Therefore, some of the opening value was missing. However, futures bettors also avoided having to pay a premium for last year's finishes. Will Zalatoris, who lost to Justin Thomas in a playoff last year opened 2023 at +2500 to win the PGA Championship. Cameron Young, who finished T-3 in last year's second major, opened at around +4000 nearly seven months removed from that performance.
Tiger Woods has seen his PGA Championship odds drop considerably through the first three months of 2023. He opened at around +8000.
PGA Championship odds 2023: Favorite
Jon Rahm (+950)
Rahm hasn't played Oak Hill professionally, and he has just two top-10 finishes in six appearances at the PGA Championship in his career. However, he opened 2023 with wins in three of his first five PGA Tour events. A disappointing showing in the Masters could add some value to these odds. I'd wait to place a bet on Rahm in hope of getting some added value with another poor performance or two. It's unlikely these odds get any lower.
PGA Championship odds 2023: Contender
Will Zalatoris (+2900)

Zalatoris collected six top-10 finishes through the first 10 major appearances of his career before winning his first regular PGA Tour event late last summer. The 2023 major season will be his first with a win under his belt, and that could alleviate some of his regular late-round putting troubles. This is good value, as Zalatoris' PGA Championship odds are as low as +2200 via BetMGM.
PGA Championship odds 2023: Long shot
Keegan Bradley (+9000)
The winner of the 2011 PGA Championship is playing excellent golf early in the 2022-23 PGA Tour season and is back up to 22nd in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). He won the Zozo Championship during the fall swing and was the runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open just a couple of months later. His missed cut at The Genesis Invitational helped keep these odds elevated for the Vermont native and graduate of St. John's University in New York.
PGA Championship odds 2023: Fade
Justin Thomas (+1600)
Though this +1600 for Thomas to win the PGA Championship is a relative value compared to the market-low odds of +1200 offered by PointsBet, they're still suppressed due to his status as the defending champion. Thomas hasn't been in the best of form this year with five finishes outside of the top 20 through seven events to start 2023.
PGA Championship odds 2023: Tiger Woods (+6600)
Woods carries PGA Championship odds as low as +5000. Though the +6600 is more appealing, Tiger's odds are always built on his past successes and popularity. I don't like this bet at any number, especially given his lackluster result at Oak Hill 10 years ago.
