The Kansas City Chiefs return to the primetime spotlight in a clash between heated AFC West rivals. On top of his normal hype level, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is gaining extra attention thanks to the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Taylor Swift.

Kelce has 101 career catches for 1,290 yards and 6 touchdowns in his 17 career games against the Denver Broncos. He is expected to play on Thursday Night Football despite an ankle sprain he suffered last week.

Injured or not, Kelce’s 37 targets still lead the team. His 27 receptions also lead all Kansas City pass catchers. The Chiefs’ tight end has surpassed this number twice this season, most recently with his 10 catches against the Minnesota Vikings last week. Kelce secured at least seven passes in seven career games against the Broncos including his last meeting with them at the end of last season.

The Broncos defense has been effective against opposing tight ends this season. Denver has limited the position to just 5.2 receptions per game. Only Cole Kmet has reached this mark against them this season with his seven catches in their matchup. Both the Washington Commanders and New York Jets posted seven collective receptions from their tight ends against the Broncos.

In his four games this season, Kelce has managed only one reception of at least 20 yards. On the season, the Kansas City tight end is averaging just 8.2 yards per catch. His career numbers in this department are slightly better at 12.6 yards per reception, but still not near this target.

Kelce had 10 games last season with a catch clearing this total. However, if he is still feeling the impact of his recent injury, it may limit his yards after the catch which will make 20 yards difficult to achieve.

Denver has been generous to tight ends this season allowing a long reception of at least 20 yards to all but one team this year. Even still, Kansas City may not have to push Kelce’s limits in this game and keep him closer to the line of scrimmage to keep him from further injury.

Despite not gaining huge chunks of yards per play this season, Kelce has started three of his four games with a healthy catch of at least 10 yards. Last week was the first week of the year in which he was unable to cross this mark on his first catch. Twice this season, he has ended the game averaging more than this total per catch.

The Broncos are giving up an average of 12.15 yards per reception to opposing tight ends. Denver has allowed at least one tight end to gain at least 10 yards on their first reception in four of their five games this season. In two cases, it was their only catch of the game.
