Thursday Night Football betting tips

Mind the shorter week

The majority of teams participating in Thursday Night football will have had just four days between games – and that isn't much time at all to prepare. Teams dealing with personnel or coaching changes or key injuries could be at a major disadvantage – and while those factors are baked into the game odds, they're still well worth your research time.

Expect a slow start

If it felt like Thursday Night Football games were snoozers in the early going last season, it's because they largely were. Teams averaged just over 19 first-half points in 15 TNF contests last season – and if you remove that crazy Week 8 game between New Orleans and Arizona when the Cardinals scored 22 points in the final 2:28 of the half, that average falls to 17.4.

Home-field advantage? Not ATS

There are trends that make sense – and then there's the NFL's Thursday Night Football point spread trend, which most certainly does not. Road teams have been surprisingly potent in recent years despite playing in hostile territory on a short week, going 30-31 SU and 38-22-1 ATS in TNF contests since the start of the 2019 regular season.
