NFL Playoff Odds 2023: Browns in the Mud After Losing Chubb

The odds to make the NFL playoffs fluctuated dramatically at our best NFL betting sites in the wake of the Week 2 results.
With most eyes on the Super Bowl odds throughout the NFL season, bettors can find value in the odds to make the NFL playoffs. This market will be prone to much more movement -and overreaction - on a weekly basis. Monitoring the odds, shopping for the best price, and zigging when the market zags can help you secure several winning tickets at the conclusion of the NFL regular season.
Here's our look at the 2023 NFL playoff odds and our best bets based on current NFL odds.
NFL playoff odds 2023: AFC

Texans | Yes: +1100; No: -2500 |
Titans | Yes: +150; No: -185 |
The Cincinnati Bengals' playoff odds are currently off the board, as star quarterback Joe Burrow's availability is still unknown. He reaggravated a calf injury in Week 2 and could miss time again. Burrow missed the entire preseason with the injury.
The 0-2 Houston Texans are the biggest long shots on the board for an AFC playoff berth.
NFL playoff odds 2023: NFC
Team | DraftKings |
---|---|
49ers | Yes: -1800; No: +900 |

Saints | Yes: -285; No: +225 |
Seahawks | Yes: +140; No: -175 |
Vikings | Yes: +260; No: -340 |
The San Francisco 49ers are the biggest favorites in either conference to make the playoffs this season. They soared past the reigning conference champion Philadelphia Eagles, who also started 2-0, but in a much less dominant fashion.
The Arizona Cardinals seem to be who we thought they were, and our best sports betting apps are already not giving them much of a chance at the postseason.
NFL playoff betting analysis
The key to betting on this NFL futures market is to avoid overreaction to weekly results. This market will move much quicker than most. Keep a close eye on upcoming schedules for teams you wish to back. Jumping on that team following a loss and before that favorable schedule stretch could be your best opportunity.
NFL playoff odds movement
The Dallas Cowboys' odds to make the playoffs moved substantially after their Week 2 beatdown of the New York Jets. Their odds were at -425 prior to Week 2 and now sit at -1000. They're notably shorter than the rival Philadelphia Eagles' odds to make the playoffs.
The Carolina Panthers dropped to 0-2 and their playoff odds moved from +370 to +700.
NFL playoff odds 2023: Favorite
San Francisco 49ers (-1200 via FanDuel)
FanDuel offers what's easily the best price in the market for the 49ers to make the playoffs following Week 2. Our other best sports betting sites that offer this market have odds of -1800 for San Francisco to make the postseason for the third straight season.
Just remember, this team is a Brock Purdy injury away from having to turn to Sam Darnold after dealing away Trey Lance this summer.
NFL playoff odds 2023: Contender
Buffalo Bills (-250 via DraftKings)
The Buffalo Bills looked more like an AFC contender in their blowout win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2.
The Bills next play the Washington Commanders on the road before another key divisional test against the Dolphins. A 3-0 run would remove much of the value in this Yes ticket.
NFL playoff odds 2023: Long shot
Los Angeles Rams (+265 via bet365)
Though the 49ers are being penciled in as the NFC West champs yet again, the Rams easily looked like the second-best team in the division in Week 1 and gave the Niners a fight in Week 2.
That said, the Rams will play the Bengals and Eagles in two of their next three games so the best price on a playoff berth is likely yet to come.
NFL playoff odds 2023: Fade
Cleveland Browns to not make playoffs (+115 via DraftKings)
Our Shane Jackson had the Browns as his fade to not make the playoffs at minus money prior to the season.
The Browns lost star running back Nick Chubb for the season and quarterback Deshaun Watson still looks like a shell of his former self. Cleveland has a favorable schedule but I'll wait to believe in a playoff berth until after back-to-back home dates with the Ravens and 49ers in Weeks 4 and 6, respectively.
How to bet NFL playoff odds
The best sportsbooks set playoff odds based on a team's chance of reaching the postseason, listing two options (yes and no) in a two-way market.
Oddsmakers set these playoff odds based on schedule difficulty, a team's power rating, individual roster updates, offseason transactions, and past results. The strength of their particular division and conference also factor in.
NFL playoff bets are futures bets. They can be placed up to the beginning of the regular season and are graded at the conclusion of the regular season.
