Bears vs. Chargers Predictions, Picks & Odds Week 8: Sunday Night Football

Check out our top predictions for the matchup between the Bears and Chargers based on the best NFL odds.

The Chicago Bears hit the road to square off against the Los Angeles Chargers for a Sunday Night Football matchup, and we offer our top Bears vs. Chargers predictions based on the best SNF odds from our best sports betting apps.

Tyson Bagent had a historic NFL debut - both emotionally and literally. He led the Bears to an incredible 18-point victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, snapping a franchise-worst 10-game home losing streak in the process. He also became the first undrafted rookie quarterback from Division II to start a game since 1950.

Meanwhile, the Chargers continue to disappoint. They dropped an AFC West showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 31-17. That was only their first time all season they've lost by more than three points, but they still have just two wins.

To accompany our NFL Week 8 predictions and NFL best bets, here is our best Bears vs. Chargers prediction for Sunday Night Football (odds via our best NFL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Bears vs. Chargers prediction: Sunday Night Football

Under 46.5 (-110 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐

Prime-time Unders are 136-87-3 in the last five seasons and have cashed in 14 of the 21 games this year, so we are happy to back that trend in this Sunday night tilt.

The Chiefs shut out the Chargers in the second half last week, as Los Angeles punted three times and threw two interceptions in its final five possessions. Justin Herbert went 7-for-16 for 100 yards and those two picks in the second half, and he was under pressure for 41% of his total dropbacks, with three players (Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, and Charles Omenihu) combining for 17 pressures. While Herbert projects to be under less pressure when facing Chicago (it entered last week ranked 19th in pass-rush win tate), the Bears can build off the momentum of holding their previous two opponents to 31 combined points.

Bagent was an efficient 21-of-29 for 162 yards and did exactly what the team wanted out of a backup quarterback by avoiding negative plays. However, Bagent’s 2.1 air yards per attempt were the lowest by a qualified quarterback in a game this season (per Next Gen Stats), and his yards per attempt (5.58) were lower than D’Onta Foreman’s yards per carry (5.6). Given that Foreman became the first Bears running back with three touchdowns in a single game since Jordan Howard in 2016, we expect the running game to be an integral part of Chicago’s offensive game plan this week and for Bagent to find life much more difficult in his first road start on national television.

The Chargers entered last week ranked 26th or worse in points per drive allowed (2.30) and yards per drive allowed (31st), but we do not expect Chicago’s offense with Bagent under center to take advantage of their deficiencies.

All of our five best sports betting apps have the same 46.5-point O/U with standard -110 odds on either side of the total. We would play this number down to 46, but we are taking advantage of the slightly better line now. Even though quarterback Justin Fields has officially been listed as doubtful with a thumb injury, there is still a chance the line comes down once he is officially ruled out.

Bears vs. Chargers odds analysis

The line movement across all of our best sports betting sites has gone in support of the Over, as they all ended up at a total of 46.5 from opening numbers of either 45 or 45.5. There has been good early two-way betting action, as the Over has received 55% of the wagers, which follows the trend that the Over has cashed in each of Chicago’s previous eight games against AFC opponents.

Like the total, all of our best sportsbooks are in unison with the same point spread (Chargers -8.5). Most shops opened as high as Los Angeles -9.5 on Sunday night, with Caesars and bet365 being the lone exceptions at -9. Fifty-eight percent of the early wagers have backed the favorites, as Chicago is 0-10 ATS in its last 10 games against teams with a losing record.
