Teaser picks NFL Week 5
Saints +1 to +7
The New England Patriots have been incredibly similar to the Saints this season, as the two clubs have shown well defensively for the most part while struggling to put points on the board.
As a result, I value boosting this number up because I don’t think New England can run up the score against a capable defense. Additionally, I think the best is still ahead for New Orleans on both sides of the ball.
Finally, I’m also encouraged that some of our best sportsbooks have New Orleans listed as the favorite, and there’s been consistent line movement in the Saints’ direction this week.
Jets +2.5 to +8.5
The Jets hung with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4, and in particular, quarterback Zach Wilson flashed some upside. Now, Wilson and Gang Green face the softest pass defense in the league by DVOA and EPA per dropback, and the Denver Broncos also rank last in coverage grade per Pro Football Focus.
This is a downtick in class for the Jets.
Additionally, while the New York defense hasn’t been as dominant as last season, that could change in a hurry if the offense can sustain drives and put more points on the board.
It’s also tough to overlook that Denver was trailing the Chicago Bears 28-7 late in the third quarter last week before pulling off an improbable comeback victory.
Teaser picks NFL Week 5: Odds analysis
While DraftKings, Caesars, and bet365 all charge the same vig for their teasers, DraftKings has New Orleans as a -1 favorite as of Thursday afternoon, so you should avoid placing this bet there.
Crossing through 0 isn’t an advised teaser strategy.
It’s a double no-no to place this bet through FanDuel and BetMGM because they each charge a higher vig for their teasers, and they also have the Saints trading at -1.
For perspective, the difference in the -120 odds is a positive expected value of 4% and 5% over the respective numbers through BetMGM and FanDuel.
