The 2024-25 NFL season is underway as we've already been treated to two games.

The Kansas City Chiefs, the Super Bowl odds favorite,  topped the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers squared off Friday in Brazil in a game that is sure to shake things up, as Packers QB Jordan Love left with a leg injury.

Top pick Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears host the Tennessee Titans in a game that will grab a lot of eyes during Sunday's 1 p.m. ET slate. No. 2 selection Jayden Daniels takes the field for the Washington Commanders against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he challenges Williams in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets wrap the week as underdogs by the Monday Night Football odds against the San Francisco 49ers. Niners fans can breathe a sigh of relief following the extension of star wideout Brandon Aiyuk on Thursday as they start their quest to return to the Big Game.

They have one of the highest NFL win totals ahead of the season and are the favorites from the NFC heading into Week 1.

NFL Week 1 odd and lines

There's an advantage to betting the early NFL odds while trying to beat the closing line.

The closer you wait until kickoff to make your NFL picks, the more difficult it becomes to identify edges and secure the best number on most spread or Over/Under wagers across our best NFL betting sites.

That's why it's important to start monitoring the NFL opening odds as soon as possible. A proactive approach is the first step to long-term success.

It was 95 long days from the Super Bowl until the release of the NFL schedule, and it looks like home teams will rule in Week 1. So far, so good, as the Chiefs and Eagles emerged victorious (although the Eagles were only a home team on paper)

Host teams opened as favorites in 14 of 16 opening-week games, and betting leading up to opening week has maintained that status quo - although one of the underdogs has switched.

When the lines dropped in May, the Colts and Browns were home 'dogs. Indy is still an underdog against the visiting Texans, but the Browns are nearly field-goal favorites against the Cowboys as one of the biggest offseason movers.

Taking their place? The New York Giants, who opened as 1-point favorites and are now 1.5-point underdogs, at home against the Minnesota Vikings. New York failed to score a single passing touchdown in the preseason, and bettors have soured on Big Blue ahead of Week 1.

The Bengals-Patriots matchup is the only game lined with a touchdown or more. It was up to 9.5 points earlier in the week and looked like it may be destined for 10, but with murmurs about Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins missing the game or being limited, it's down to a 7.5-point spread.

Best NFL Week 1 moneylines

(odds via bet365)

Game Week 1 moneyline (Sept. 7) Week 1 opening moneyline (May 16)
Cardinals vs. Bills  Bills -300 Bills -340
Panthers vs. Saints  Saints -200 Saints -210
Texans vs. Colts  Colts +130 Colts +105
Jaguars vs. Dolphins Dolphins -180 Dolphins -170
Vikings vs. Giants  Giants +105 Giants -110
Patriots vs. Bengals  Bengals -390 Bengals -425
Steelers vs. Falcons  Falcons -185 Falcons -155
Titans vs. Bears Bears -190 Bears -220
Broncos vs. Seahawks  Seahawks -250 Seahawks -205
Raiders vs. Chargers  Chargers -160 Chargers -165
Cowboys vs. Browns  Browns -140 Browns +100
Commanders vs. Buccaneers Buccaneers -190 Buccaneers -190
Rams vs. Lions Lions -220 Lions -165
Jets vs. 49ers 49ers -210 49ers -250
Chiefs 27, Ravens 20 Chiefs -150 Chiefs -150
Eagles 34, Packers 29 Eagles -130 Eagles -125

The hype around the Cardinals had seen the Bills shift from -340 to -270, but Buffalo has been steamed back to -300 ahead of Marvin Harrison Jr.'s first career start. The Broncos are on the road with a rookie signal-caller making his first regular-season start, which has resulted in the Seahawks picking up steam.

Contract issues with Trent Williams and Aiyuk saw the 49ers pass through the -200 number to hit -190 just days ago, but since they've both re-signed, we're back to -210.

We're running out of time to get some early action on lines that might move even further before the regular season - or perhaps it's time to start making some parlays.

We were down to the wire, but it's finally happened - we have a game with a total lined at fewer than 40 points. And we've actually seen a few others shifting downward.

That's following an Over on Friday and a Push or an Over (depending on where you shop) in Thursday's season opener.
