Falcons vs. Cowboys Prediction, Odds & Expert Picks: NFL Preseason Week 3

We make the best Falcons vs. Cowboys prediction for Friday night’s 8 p.m. ET (NFL Network) game between two teams that haven’t been enjoying much success this preseason. The Cowboys are the 2.5-point favorites, but Dak Prescott isn't expected to play on Friday. Instead, Joe Milton III will start again, and it’s been a rough preseason for him.
For the Falcons, neither Michael Penix Jr. nor Kirk Cousins will play. Can they pull off the upset anyway? We dive in as part of our NFL preseason Week 3 predictions.

Prescott hasn’t played since November of last year, and Cowboys’ fans will need to wait a few more weeks before seeing him on the field. That means the final preseason game will be another dose of Milton and Will Grier, two signal-callers who have been struggling throughout the preseason.
Milton enters this game just 26-of-47 passing for 265 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions throughout August. Meanwhile, Grier is 3-of-8 passing for 47 yards, and he finished just 1-of-5 for 33 yards in his last appearance.
So why am I taking the Cowboys? Because the team's backup quarterback battle means the Cowboys’ offense will be playing hard for all four quarters. And while the unit hasn’t been great this preseason, the Falcons haven’t been thriving offensively or defensively.
They have yet to score more than 20 points in a game. And with their offense set for Week 1, I expect the Falcons to try out different personnel to see who deserves a spot on the 53-man roster.

Despite the quarterback battle going on in Dallas, it’s hard to imagine either team scoring much in this game. Both teams have scored 21 points or fewer in each of their preseason outings, and the quarterback situation is at an all-time low in Atlanta.
Easton Stick will get the start again, and he’s been decent this preseason. But with Penix and Cousins out, and Emory Jones in the concussion protocol, the backup is Ben DiNucci. We don’t know how much DiNucci will play, but it’s safe to assume he’ll see the field a bit since Stick has already done more than enough to back up Penix and Cousins.
Milton has produced his moments this preseason, but he’s averaging barely over 10 yards per completion and has completed just 55% of his pass attempts against backups. Milton’s backup, Grier, has been even worse.
There’s nothing to be excited about offensively in this game, so take the Under, even at this low number.
