Celtics vs. Knicks Prediction, Pick & Odds: New-Look Celtics Eye Road Win in Opener

Check out our top prediction for Wednesday's matchup between the Celtics and Knicks based on the best NBA odds.

The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, Eastern Conference heavyweights, clash Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, and we have our Celtics vs. Knicks prediction based on the best NBA odds.

Over the summer, the Boston Celtics orchestrated significant changes following their loss in a seven-game playoff series to the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat. The team pulled off a three-way deal that sent Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and brought Kristaps Porzingis to town. Additionally, they traded Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams to the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire Jrue Holiday.

The New York Knicks, who reached the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, have kept their roster largely intact. Notable changes include bench forward Obi Toppin departing in an off-season trade and the addition of veteran guard Donte DiVincenzo in free agency.

A road win for Boston will set a positive tone for the season and help in building momentum for another deep playoff run. On the other hand, a victory for New York in front of its home crowd over an Eastern Conference favorite will serve as a statement of the team's true contender status.

Along with our best Celtics vs. Knicks prediction, here are our Best NBA Player Props and our NBA picks (odds via our best NBA betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Celtics vs. Knicks prediction

Derrick White Over 9.5 points + Over 2.5 assists (+170 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

White played his first full season for the Celtics in 2022-23 and posted 12.4 points and 3.9 assists in 28.3 minutes. Those numbers mirrored his five-year averages, showcasing his consistency as a scorer and facilitator.

He appeared in all 82 games last season, starting 70. White posted at least 10 points in 50 of those outings, at least three assists in 52 of them, and at least 10 points and three assists in 34. He hit these milestones in three of four games against the Knicks.

Those strong numbers from a season ago came while playing alongside Smart, who averaged 11.5 points and 6.3 assists. Holiday averaged 19.3 points and 7.4 assists for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, but Boston’s rotation is now thinner, especially in the backcourt. Brogdon and Smart are gone, and the team added only Holiday. That means White should push for more minutes and have no problem cashing this parlay.

The arrival of Holiday does little to dampen White’s outlook this season, though the lines on his props seem to indicate otherwise. That’s what we can take advantage of in the Celtics’ opener.

White’s points and assists lines don’t offer much value, with all of them coming in between -120 and -131 across our best sports betting apps. His points+assists prop has slightly longer odds between -108 and -115, but we can make this a much more profitable wager with a Same Game Parlay.

We can take the assist number down to 1.5 and get a -110 or -120 value, and we can take the points up to 10.5 to get longer odds of +215 or +237. Instead, we’ll settle on the sweet spot of 9.5 points and 2.5 assists at DraftKings for favorable +170 odds.

Celtics vs. Knicks odds analysis

After opening as 1-point favorites at our best sports betting sites, the Celtics are now favored by 3.5. Bettors are in on Boston, with 67% of wagers placed on the road team to cover. The Celtics finished seventh in the Association with a 27-23 ATS record on the road last season, including the postseason. The Knicks were better at covering on the road than at home in 2022-23, going 21-22-3 ATS at Madison Square Garden, though they were 6-5-1 ATS as home 'dogs.

The point total is 225.5, up slightly after opening at 223.5, but bettors favor a low-scoring affair here. The teams combined for at least 226 points in three of four meetings last season, yet 63% of the money is on the Under. The Knicks were 26-20 to the Under at home, while the Celtics were 23-26-1 to the Under on the road.
