Mike Brown of the Sacramento Kings claimed the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2022, and it was a well-deserved recognition. Brown successfully led the Kings to the NBA Playoffs, putting an end to their 17-year postseason drought.

His preseason price of +8000 paid off, but it seems unlikely we'll get a similar opportunity for a long-shot bet in the upcoming season. The longest price in the DraftKings market stands at +6000.

It's the NBA offseason, so you might expect the futures odds for the NBA Coach of the Year to remain relatively stable with no games being played. However, that hasn't been the case. We've witnessed Mark Daigneault's odds shift from +1200 at DraftKings to +650, making him the favorite.

Additionally, Jason Kidd's odds have shortened throughout the offseason, and there's a significant price discrepancy for Kidd in the current market. Caesars is offering the Dallas Mavericks head coach at +3000, while he's as short as +1200 via FanDuel.

NBA Coach of the Year odds 2024: Favorite

Erik Spoelstra (+950 via FanDuel)

Despite being widely regarded as one of the NBA's top coaches, Spoelstra has never won the NBA Coach of the Year Award, which is surprising. That glaring omission adds weight to his case as the 2023-24 season approaches, and it reflects poorly on the award's history. Spoelstra's coaching talent is undeniable, but the question remains whether he can exceed expectations with the Heat, particularly if they acquire a superstar like Damian Lillard.

We haven't observed significant movement in Spoelstra's odds throughout the offseason, but that could certainly change if the Miami Heat acquire Lillard via trade. Spoelstra was trading at +1300 to win NBA COTY heading into 2022-23, so his opening odds are much shorter prior to 2023-24.

NBA Coach of the Year odds 2024: Contender

Taylor Jenkins (+1600 via FanDuel)

If Jenkins guides the Memphis Grizzlies successfully through Ja Morant's 25-game suspension and leads them to a high seed in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies coach will have made a strong narrative case for the award. That story would resonate with the media, and Jenkins boasts a capable roster, especially after the addition of Marcus Smart. His reputation as a premier NBA coach makes him a strong candidate for votes, especially given that the Grizzlies' season is likely to be filled with adversity.

Most of our best sportsbooks feature Jenkins trading in the +1500 range, with FanDuel offering the longest price at +1600. bet365 also considers Jenkins a strong contender compared to other sportsbooks, as it's listing him at +1000.

NBA Coach of the Year odds 2024: Long shot

Jamahl Mosley (+2500 via DraftKings)

The ability to elevate a team beyond its expected performance is often a key factor in determining the front-runners in this futures market, and Mosley could find himself leading a roster poised for significant growth during the 2023-24 season. The Magic are highly likely to secure a playoff spot in 2024, and depending on their seeding, Mosley could garner significant attention for successfully revitalizing the franchise.

We did see Mosley's odds shorten from +3000 to +2500 at DraftKings throughout the offseason, right around when he was named the head coach of the USA select team. That was also when he was seen working with the USA FIBA World Cup squad on social media.

Michael Malone (+2600 via FanDuel)

While Malone is one of the favorites, the Coach of the Year Award typically goes to a coach who exceeds expectations, as Brown did in 2023. The Nuggets are the defending champs, so I'm uncertain about how much more Malone can achieve during the regular season to prove he's the deserving recipient.

While I'm not a fan of betting on Malone, his +2600 price at FanDuel is a rogue offering that alters your perspective a little bit. I still can't bring myself to place a bet, but I can see how +2600 might be appealing. However, there's no chance you'll find me anywhere near the +900 odds at some of our other best NBA betting sites.
