Rudy Gobert is the runaway favorite to win the 2024 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, according to the latest NBA odds from our best NBA betting sites.

Only two players in NBA history have been named the league's best defensive player in four different seasons. Rudy Gobert appears to a near-lock to join them in 2024 based on the latest odds from our best sports betting sites.

Gobert wrestled away the top spot in this market and has held on for four months now, and the Minnesota Timberwolves center is the clear front-runner heading out of the NBA All-Star break. It'll take a monumental effort from one of the secondary options in this race to deny Gobert the fourth DPOY award of his career.

Here's a look at the latest odds for the 2024 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, along with our top NBA picks among the favorites, contenders, and long shots.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year favorite 2024

Rudy Gobert (-650 via FanDuel)

In hindsight, it feels a bit silly that Gobert entered the season with longer than +1000 odds across our best sports betting sites given that he's won this award three times in the last six seasons.

It makes perfect sense that he's once again the heavy favorite to win it, as Gobert is averaging 2.1 blocks while leading the NBA in defensive win shares (4.2) following the All-Star break. His play is a key reason the Timberwolves rank first in defensive rating (108.2) with the fourth-highest defensive rebound rate (72.9%).

Still, Gobert's numbers aren't as otherworldly as they've been when he won this award in seasons past, and voters are always looking for the shiny newcomers in any market dominated by a multi-time winner. Gobert will probably win this award, but be careful laying such a short price with two months to go.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds: Contender

Jarrett Allen (+1000 via BetMGM)

Allen has seen his stock climbing in this market over the last month, as he was dealing at 50/1 just a few weeks ago before surging into the second spot in this market.

On Jan. 1, Allen finished with zero blocks for the 16th time in 28 starts in a narrow loss for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He's finished with at least one block in 18 of 20 games since, and the Cavs have ripped off an 18-2 record with the NBA's best defensive rating (105.6) in that stretch.

Does that mean he's worth a ticket at 10/1? In the end, his overall season stats will still pale in comparison to Gobert's, though Cleveland could finish with the best defensive rating if he keeps up this recent performance. That could be enough to help him usurp the three-time winner in this race.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds: Long shot

Victor Wembanyama (+2500 via BetMGM)

It was just a couple weeks ago that Wembanyama was still listed at +7500 at BetMGM to win this award, which has never gone to a rookie in NBA history. He's sure making one heck of a case to change that ahead of the final two months of the season.

The Spurs' first-year phenom put together one of the best stat lines we've ever seen in the week before the All-Star break, swatting 10 shots in a rare triple-double against the Toronto Raptors on Feb. 12 - the most by any player in a game this season.

That shouldn't come as a major surprise, given that Wembanyama leads the league in blocks per game (3.2) and ranks second in block rate (9.6%) - both of which far outpace the current mark by Gobert, who remains the overwhelming favorite.

Defense is about more than just blocks, though Wemby also ranks third in defensive rebound rate (30.5%) and ninth in defensive box plus-minus (2.3), again ranking ahead of Gobert by both metrics. It's tough to jump in at this shortened price, but it could still be worth the gamble.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds movement

Gobert has been the clear front-runner in the NBA Defensive Player of the Year market for months, but he saw his odds lengthen ever-so-slightly over the All-Star break, suggesting this race isn't fully over just yet.

At the same time, players like Allen and Wembanyama have seen their odds shorten in recent weeks as they make one final push for this award. This will likely still be Gobert's to lose over the final two months, but we've seen late movement in this race in previous years and could be in for a wild finish in 2024.
