NBA Best Bets Today: Schedule, Picks for Wednesday

Victor Wembanyama makes his NBA debut and 12 games are on the slate - what more could you ask for on a Wednesday in October as we highlight our NBA best bets for Wednesday based on the best NBA odds.

It was a hot start for the NBA best bets on Opening Night as we swept the board with an Under bet on LeBron James and Anthony Davis player props. It was getting a little sweaty there at the end for the Under on James' points prop, but when the clock hit zero, it was indeed another green checkmark for the account.

On Wednesday, we have 12 games on the NBA schedule! TWELVE!

I'll be adding bets throughout the day as I make them, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see multiple rookies make their way onto today's card; I already have a bet on one of them.

Wednesday’s NBA player prop picks

Onyeka Okongwu Over 8.5 points vs. Hornets (-108 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐

How many times do you think we can take advantage of Okongwu's points total before our best sports betting apps realize Okongwu added a 3-point shot to his game in the offseason? Okongwu attempted 13 3-pointers all of last season and 13 triples in just four preseason games this year.

Not only did he attempt 13 3-pointers, but he made five of them, shooting 38% from beyond the arc. This added dimension to his game hasn't been accounted for early in the season by our best sports betting sites. Okongwu was trading with totals of 8.5 last season when his offensive game was more limited.

Okongwu is projected to score 9.8 points on Wednesday against the Hornets, which means we can price the Over 8.5 points at -134, yet it is available at Caesars at -108. Caesars has the best price, and I would be shocked if this closed at Caesars with the juice at -108, as FanDuel has already pushed their juice up to -128 on the Over 8.5 points.

CJ McCollum Over 4.5 assists vs. Grizzlies (+106 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After battling multiple injuries throughout last season, McCollum enters the 2023-24 season fully healthy, and I don't think this can be understated. McCollum tried to play through the injuries last year, but it was definitely impacting his play and was one of the many reasons the New Orleans Pelicans fell off in the second half of the season.

The total of 4.5 assists is too low for me when you consider that the Pelicans will have Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and McCollum all on the floor at the same time. McCollum will be the primary ball handler in the pick and roll, and with a full complement of weapons on offense, McCollum should have multiple players he can find for open shots and, most importantly, who can make the shots.

McCollum should be a 5.5 assists player, definitely not 4.5 with the Over at plus money. The Grizzlies will also be without Steven Adams on the interior of their defense, as he has been ruled out for the season.

McCollum is projected to have 5.1 assists, which allows us to price him at -128 to go Over the total of 4.5 assists, yet it is available at Caesars at +106. I'm really liking what I'm seeing in the numbers here for McCollum, which is why he has earned the first five-star wager of the season.

Scoot Henderson Over 5.5 assists vs. Clippers (+116 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I wrote an article here at Sportsbook Review on why you should stay focused on NBA player props for rookies early in the season, and Henderson's assists prop on Wednesday represents an example of the point I was trying to convey in that article.

Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren garnered a lot of media attention throughout the preseason, but if you tuned into any Trail Blazers games, you would have seen a rookie point guard who is ready to produce immediately. While scoring might take some time and development for Henderson, I believe he's prepared to create offense for others through his athleticism and vision right away.

Another positive aspect of Henderson's assists prop is that, although he is on a team in the midst of rebuilding, the Trail Blazers' starting lineup is filled with players who can capitalize on Henderson's passing. Deandre Ayton alone helped Chris Paul get 10-plus assists in the pick and roll last season, and Henderson also has the lob threat in Shaedon Sharpe.

Henderson is projected to have 6.2 assists on Wednesday against the Clippers, which means we can price the Trail Blazers' point guard at -130 to go Over the total of 5.5 assists. With a +116 available at FanDuel, this bet shows a positive expected value of 22%.
