As if the New York Jets season hasn't been horrifying enough, they'll play host to the Houston Texans tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET for a Halloween edition of Thursday Night Football on Prime Video to kick off NFL Week 9.

The Jets are surprise favorites tonight by the latest Thursday Night Football odds after a 2-6 start, and we like their top receiver's chances to reach the end zone for the first time since a blockbuster trade a few weeks ago.

Our Texans vs. Jets TNF prop bets also focus on the two best players for Houston's snakebitten offense, which will be without two of its top wideouts heading into tonight's matchup at MetLife Stadium. That's one reason why we favor New York in our Texans vs. Jets prediction.

Here are our favorite player props for tonight as part of our Week 9 NFL predictions.

Texans vs. Jets player props: Thursday Night Football

Odds as of Wednesday and subject to change.

  • Joe Mixon Over 80.5 rushing yards (-110 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • C.J. Stroud Under 225.5 passing yards (-110 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Davante Adams to score a touchdown (+160 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐

NFL picks made Wednesday; odds subject to change. Our NEW NFL player prop odds tool can help you find the best odds on any market across legal sportsbooks in your area!

Joe Mixon Over 80.5 rushing yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mixon has played in four full games this season. He’s rushed for at least 102 yards in each of those contests, one of which was against a top-10 run defense. He’s carried the ball at least 25 times in three of those four contests, and he’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry this season.

The Jets’ defense is legit, but if the unit has one weakness, it’s its run defense. They’re allowing 125.6 rushing yards per game this season, which ranks 17th in the NFL. Over the last three weeks, they’ve allowed an average of 136.7 per contest.

Three of our best sports betting apps have this total set at 80.5, while two others have it at 81.5.

bet365 is offering the best price for the Over at either total despite coming in on the lower number, which makes it the obvious place to play.

C Jackson Cowart is also backing Mixon in a different market in his NFL Week 9 player props.

C.J. Stroud Under 225.5 passing yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stroud has the seventh-most yards in the NFL this season, but he’s thrown for fewer than 200 yards in two of his last three games. While he’s thrown for over 225.5 yards in five of his eight games, he’s done most of his damage against weak defenses, such as the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jets are allowing just 161.1 passing yards per game this season. Russell Wilson torched them for 264 yards two weeks ago, but the Jets have held Josh Allen and Sam Darnold under this number over the last four weeks. With the Texans’ advantage coming on the ground, Mixon will take away Stroud’s opportunities.

The total for this prop ranges from 223.5 to 225.5. Once again, bet365 offers the best price for the Under despite being set at the better number. Meanwhile, Caesars is offering -118 for Under 224.5 and FanDuel is offering -113 for Under 223.5.

I broke down a few other ways to bet on the Texans passer in my C.J. Stroud TNF player prop bets.

Davante Adams to score a touchdown (+160) ⭐⭐⭐

Adams has yet to score a touchdown since being traded to the Jets, but that should all change tonight. Adams gets a fantastic matchup against the Texans’ secondary, allowing 2.0 passing touchdowns per game this season.

The Texans’ secondary has struggled to keep receivers out of the end zone no matter who they play. Three weeks ago, they gave up three passing touchdowns to New England rookie signal-caller Drake Maye.

Adams only has one receiving touchdown in five games this season, which is why this price is so favorable to bettors. DraftKings has the price at +140, which implies a 41.67% chance that Adams scores. Adams has combined for 22 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Considering the defense he’s facing, even that number feels like a good price.

Best odds: +160 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 38.46%
