Despite facing challenges such as the absence of Kupp, a previous poor season, and a daunting environment, the Rams have a shot at victory in this matchup. This game has the potential to deliver a surprise upset of the week.
Last season, despite how terrible they were, the Rams lost by a combined seven points to the Seahawks. In the final game of the year, they pushed the Seahawks to overtime with Baker Mayfield as their QB. Stafford is a vast improvement over Mayfield, and with the Super Bowl hangover behind them, expect this Rams’ offense to perform better in 2023 even with Kupp injured.
While the Seahawks were the surprise of last season, everyone is taking them seriously heading into 2023. How will this team perform under pressure, and can quarterback Geno Smith replicate what he did in 2022? He'll face an immediate test against a solid Rams’ defense that's much better than it was a year ago.
But most importantly, look at how this line moved. Despite Kupp out and the Seahawks being a public darling, oddsmakers pushed this spread in the Rams' favor. It doesn’t make much sense, and it seems bettors are taking the bait and betting on the Seahawks. The Rams can win, but take the spread to play it safe.

Even with Stafford at the helm last year, they looked bad. But oddsmakers aren't willing to drop this number just yet, perhaps because of how good the Seahawks' offense can be.
As for the spread, the Seahawks opened as 5.5-point favorites, and the number shrank despite Seattle receiving most of the support. Some books show this number as low as 4 now. It’s unlikely it drops to the key number, but it does seem like oddsmakers are content with ignoring betting trends and moving the line in the Rams' favor.
