Here's why I am predicting Cowboys vs. Rams to go Under the total:

Sean McVay is famously apathetic about the preseason, and starting QB Matthew Stafford certainly won't play as he battles a back issue. Dak Prescott hasn't played in the preseason since 2019. Neither coach is expected to play their key starters, and both have questions to answer with their reserve rushers. I fully expect this one to be a conservative slog for 60 minutes.

This feels like another example of the public hyping up the debut of a quarterback who might only play a few snaps. Even if you're excited about Titans top pick Cam Ward, I'm decidedly less enthusiastic about two-plus quarters of Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle - especially with Kyle Trask and veteran Teddy Bridgewater splitting snaps for the home underdogs.

Here's why I am predicting Chiefs vs. Cardinals to go Over/Under the total:

Both of these teams went 0-3 in the postseason last year, but both have been public about a plan to roll out the starters in the clubs' respective preseason openers, which the offensive stars have seemed to embrace. Given the starting experience of backups Jacoby Brissett (Cardinals) and Gardner Minshew (Chiefs), I like this game to exceed the typical preseason scoring pace.

There's only one game today with a point spread shorter than -4, and it's this insanely priced matchup in Santa Clara. Yes, I know the 49ers are set to rest their starters while the Broncos play theirs, but I wouldn't expect either team's first unit to last to the second quarter. A touchdown spread in a preseason game? Give me a break - take the points and don't overthink it from there.
