Matthew Stafford vs. Jared Goff NFL Player Props, Odds: Week 1
The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams face off after battling in the NFC Super Wild Card Weekend last season. The Lions are the favorites in the Sunday Night Football odds, but there are still plenty of prop markets to break down in this game.
When these two faced each other in the playoffs last season, Rams QB Matt Stafford had the better stats, but Lions QB Jared Goff was the one who came away victorious.
Should we expect to see similar results to that game when picking the best Matthew Stafford vs. Jared Goff NFL player props for Sunday night? We'll answer that question along with our other Week 1 NFL predictions and Rams vs. Lions prediction.
Goff finished last season with the second-most passing yards in the league. He also threw 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Meanwhile, Stafford just missed hitting 4,000 yards. What is in store tonight? Our best sports betting sites have plenty of options to choose from.

Matthew Stafford more passing yards than Jared Goff (-105) ⭐⭐⭐
Our best sportsbooks have Stafford projected to throw for more yards than Goff. How are we getting Stafford as an underdog when taking on Goff in a head-to-head battle? It doesn’t make sense.
In last year’s postseason meeting, Stafford threw for 367 yards while Goff threw for 277. The Lions’ secondary has seemingly improved since last season, and the Ram’s defense has gotten worse.
While that seems to point toward Goff having the bigger day, Stafford will likely be trailing for most of this game, leading to better numbers, just like in last year’s playoffs.
The Lions also finished with the sixth-most rushing yards in the league last season. Though the Rams have Kyren Williams, their offense will be much more one-dimensional this season, leading to more yards from Stafford.
Best odds: -105 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 51.22%
Jared Goff 3+ passing touchdowns (+250) ⭐⭐⭐
There is no value in taking Goff to throw for over 1.5 passing touchdowns. Sportsbooks are asking at least -150 for the over, so while you could consider adding it to a parlay, betting it alone simply isn’t worth it.
For as good of a season as Goff had last year, he only threw three or more touchdowns in three games. All three of those contests were played at Ford Field. This happened despite the Lions scoring the fifth-most points per game because his running backs stole a lot of touchdowns.
Backfield mates Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery could hurt Goff’s production again this season, but the price for this is very good. When you consider the Lions scoring 29.9 points per game at home last season, you have to assume they will score at least four touchdowns tonight. For their QB to account for three of those for a price of +250 is too good to pass up.
If one can go to Amon-Ra St. Brown, our Gary Pearson will cash one of his Amon-Ra St. Brown player props.
Best odds: +250 via bet365 | Implied probability: 28.57%
Matthew Stafford Over 35.5 pass attempts (-120) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the best play for either of these quarterbacks on Sunday night. While the price is far from attractive, it’s very fair, especially when Stafford threw at least 36 passes in seven games last season.
The Lions gave up an average of 34.8 attempts last season. If the game plays out the way most expect it to, then the Lions will lead for most of the contest, and again, the secondary will be relied upon. The Rams will not shy away from Stafford throwing the ball 40 times if that’s what’s needed to keep them in this game.
Even if they don't end up in the endzone, they should keep Joshua Karty in range for enough field goals to cash one of Rodrigo Villagomez's Rams vs. Lions player props.
The price for this prop is as high as -130 at bet365 and BetMGM, while DraftKings has this at -125. FanDuel is the only sportsbook offering this at -120, which is a bit of a steal.
