The extended period of wondering what to do on Thursday evenings is finally over as the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers kickstart the 2025 NFL preseason.

My Lions vs. Chargers parlay for tonight's Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio (8 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock), feature a three-leg parlay.

A $10 wager will yield a $53.57 profit if our Lions vs. Chargers prediction, one of the Lions vs. Chargers team props, and Over/Under pick cash.

Lions -1.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

Jim Harbaugh-coached teams are 1-4 in the first game of the preseason, with three losses by 13 points or more. While the sample size is minuscule, those numbers are too ghastly to be brushed under the rug. In those four games, his teams averaged 5.8 points per game.

That's about as anemic as the Chargers' offense was for much of last season.

And then there's Detroit's new defensive and offensive coordinators, Kelvin Sheppard and John Morton. It's their first game in charge of their respective units, which should spearhead a want-to-impress mindset.

That could galvanize the collective and add an impetus that wouldn't exist with long-established coaches.  It should come as no surprise that I'm kicking off my Lions vs. Chargers parlay with a play from my Lions vs. Chargers prediction piece.

Over 32.5 (-115) ⭐⭐⭐

The bar for Hall of Fame Game totals is about as low as the New Orleans Saints' win total expectations. That facilitates more hope for the Over, which has hit in the last two Hall of Fame Games. It would have been three had last year's tilt gone the distance.

With Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen bidding for the backup quarterback role, the Lions should deploy an aggressive game plan. Let's hope that leads to scoring chances and points.

And I can't envision an outcome where Harbaugh doesn't markedly improve his 5.8 points-per-game average in preseason openers. If Trey Lance strikes gold on the former side on his all-or-nothing trajectory, we should get at least 33 points.

Lions 200+ receiving yards (-128) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Conservative play-calling is a traditional hallmark of Hall of Fame Games. Still, I don't think new offensive coordinator Morton falls into that specific stereotype, given that it's his first game in charge, along with his background under the Jon Gruden coaching umbrella.

That, combined with Hooker and Allen's quarterback duel and a lack of running options in the backfield, provides enough confidence to pull the trigger on this leg of the Lions vs. Chargers parlay. I'm also so confident that this features as one of my favorite Lions vs. Chargers team props.
