Six months of waiting have finally come to an end as Thursday's Hall of Fame Game, featuring the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers, takes center stage from Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio (8 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock).

Behind the starters, I'm more confident in the Lions' quarterback room at this stage.

Kyle Allen impressed as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 of last year's preseason against the Houston Texans, completing 17-of-23 passes for 193 yards, a touchdown, and a pick. He is reportedly ahead of Hendon Hooker in the battle to be Jared Goff's backup.

Hooker also showcased his potential for the Lions last preseason, tossing a touchdown and a pick against the Steelers while amassing 300 yards on 29-of-44. He was, however, sacked five times.

The Chargers' veteran backup, Taylor Heinicke, struggled in the preseason, completing 20-of-44 passes for 206 yards.

Trey Lance infamously tossed five picks last year against the Chargers as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, while DJ Uiagalelei's early days at training camp have been reportedly laden with questionable decisions.

A ton has been made of the early volatility at Detroit's training camp, with Campbell having to step in multiple times to break up scraps. That agitation and amped competitiveness might spill over into the Hall of Fame Game, which could give the Lions an edge.

While the under hit in 12 of the previous 16 Hall of Fame Games, the Over came through in the last two. It could have been three Overs in a row had it not been for last year's Hall of Fame Game being called off due to inclement weather.

I'm leaning toward the Over as the Lions will want to further evaluate Hooker and Allen. Additionally, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are unlikely to feature. That should lead to an increased number of pass attempts, hopefully facilitating scoring chances.

The Chargers will likely deploy a run-heavy attack, but they might become more expansive if they fall behind. And Jim Harbaugh will want to see if Heinicke and Lance have progressed since last year.
