No doubt, this is a hefty point spread for a preseason game. But if there’s one thing we know about the Miami Dolphins it’s that when they win preseason games, they tend to win them convincingly.
Last week’s 24-17 upset win at Detroit was the third straight time the Dolphins won a preseason game by exactly a touchdown. Throw in a 28-3 rout of Houston in Week 2 of the 2023 preseason and a 48-10 rout of Philadelphia in the 2022 finale, and Miami’s last five exhibition victories have been by at least seven points.
Dial things back to the final dress rehearsal game in 2018, and the Dolphins are 7-1 ATS as a preseason favorite. On top of all that, reports are that Miami’s starters are expected to see significantly more action Saturday than Jacksonville’s - hence this large point spread.

The answer: 2019. The question: When was the last time the Under cashed in a Miami Dolphins preseason finale.
That’s right, Miami has topped the total in four consecutive late-August contests (the 2020 preseason was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Not only that, but going back to 2017, the Over is 6-1 in Miami’s preseason cappers.
This year, Miami has put up 24 points in each of its two games against the Bears (24-24 tie) and Lions (24-17 win) — even though starting quarterback Tau Tagovailoa has thrown a total of six passes.
Jacksonville’s offense also has been productive this summer, tallying 25 points in a loss to Pittsburgh and 17 points (all in the first half) in last week’s 17-17 tie at New Orleans.
Trevor Lawerence and the rest of the Jaguars’ starters played just a couple of series in the first two games. First-year Jacksonville coach Liam Coen may not deviate from that plan in Miami. But if the Jags’ first-string defense only sees limited action, that doesn’t mean these teams can’t clear 38.5 points when all is said and done.
After all, Miami’s reserve offense has accounted for all 48 points the team has tallied this month.
