The Cincinnati Bengals shook up the draft landscape this week by trading the No. 10 pick to the New York Giants for star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, filling their biggest roster hole in one move but leaving them without a first-round selection for the first time since 1989.

As part of our NFL draft predictions for every team, we break down the Bengals' full draft picks, biggest team needs, ideal prospect fits, mock draft projections, and our prediction for which player Cincinnati will draft with their first pick ahead of the first round, which begins Thursday at 8 p.m. ET live on ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network.

See where the Bengals rank by the latest Super Bowl odds for every team.

Round Pick(s)
1 No pick (traded No. 10 to NYG for Dexter Lawrence)
2 No. 41
3 No. 72
4 No. 110
5 No pick
6 No. 189, 199
7 No. 221, 226

🆘 Bengals team needs entering draft

We break down every team's projected NFL win totals with our best Over/Under picks by division.

  • Team needs: LB, OL, CB, EDGE, DB
  • Key additions: Dexter Lawrence (DT, via trade), Bryan Cook (S), Boye Mafe (EDGE), Kyle Dugger (S)
  • Key departures: Trey Hendrickson (EDGE, Ravens), Joseph Ossai (EDGE, Jets), Cam Taylor-Britt (CB, Colts), Geno Stone (S, Bills)

Cincinnati had the second-worst total defense in the NFL last season (382.1 yards per game) and the third-worst scoring defense (28.9 points per game), and while the Lawrence trade addresses the interior, the rest of the defense still needs serious work. Losing Hendrickson - who had double-digit sacks in four straight seasons - leaves a gaping hole off the edge that the Mafe signing alone doesn't fully solve. The linebacker group also needs a playmaker, and the secondary remains a concern even after adding Cook and Dugger, with protecting Joe Burrow always top of mind for an offensive line that can't afford any regression.

🏈 Bengals draft prospect fits

I asked NFL draft expert Rob Paul to pick the Bengals' best prospect fit in a dream scenario, their safest pick, and their best upside pick for Thursday:

Pick type No. 10 pick (pre-trade) Grade Paul's take
🌟 Dream pick Caleb Downs, SAF, Ohio State 7.40 Downs may play a devalued position, but he's one of the best players in the draft thanks to his violent playing style, suddenness, and football IQ - he's the exact type of leader the Bengals need on the backend
🛡️ Safe pick Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU 7.30 Cincinnati needs help in its secondary, and Delane is the highest floor cornerback in the class with his ability to mirror and match in man and cover instincts to make plays on the ball in zone
🚀 Upside pick Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee 7.25 If not for a torn ACL causing him to miss the entire 2025 season, McCoy might be a consensus top 10 pick - that's how good his film was in 2024 as a 19-year-old, and his movement skills make him the highest upside corner

⚠️ Editor's note

These picks were made before the Bengals traded the No. 10 pick for Dexter Lawrence; these players are unlikely to be available when Cincinnati is on the clock at No. 41 in Round 2. We will update this page closer to the draft.

📝 Bengals mock draft consensus picks

I went through the latest mock drafts from other top experts across the industry and gathered their predictions for the Bengals. These mocks were published before the Dexter Lawrence trade, when Cincinnati still held the No. 10 pick:

Source Pick
Mel Kiper (ESPN) Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU
Chad Reuter (NFL.com) Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee
Mike Renner (CBS) Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State
Todd McShay (The Ringer) Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State
Dane Brugler (The Athletic) Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

Before the Lawrence trade, the mock drafts arrived at a clear consensus: fix the secondary. Three of five mocks had Cincinnati taking a cornerback (Mansoor Delane or Jermod McCoy) with the other two opting for safety Caleb Downs with the No. 10 pick. Those players won't be available when the Bengals are on the clock at No. 41, where players like South Carolina's Brandon Cisse, Arizona's Treydan Stukes, or Indiana's D'Angelo Ponds could be better targets.

🔮 Bengals draft prediction 2026

See Rob Paul's expert NFL mock draft for projections and analysis of all 32 first-round picks.

Paul's pre-trade pick at No. 10: Caleb Downs, SAF, Ohio State

  • Pro comparison: Bigger Budda Baker
  • Measurables: 6'0" | 206 lbs | 21 years old | RAS: N/A

The theme of this draft class is blue-chip talents playing non-premium positions, and Caleb Downs is the poster boy for it. The three-time All-American has been labeled a potential top-10 pick since starting for Nick Saban at Alabama as an 18-year-old. His football IQ is through the roof, and he frequently showcases it by putting himself in position to make plays on the ball and ball carriers (he hasn't allowed a TD since 2023). Downs is the leader the Cincinnati Bengals need on their defense.

What now? With the No. 10 pick traded to New York, Cincinnati's first selection is No. 41 in Round 2. The Bengals' defensive needs outside of defensive tackle remain urgent, and the second round could feature intriguing prospects like Peter Woods (DT, Clemson), Jacob Rodriguez (LB, Texas Tech), and Cashius Howell (EDGE, Texas A&M). We will update this section with Paul's revised pick when he releases his updated mock draft on Monday.
