Monday's NFL best bet

Chiefs ML vs. Eagles (+105 via DraftKings)

First things first: I believe the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl and should be the favorites. When the Super Bowl odds opened at Chiefs -2.5 at select books, I thought that was a much more accurate spread than the Eagles -1.5 we're seeing now.

Monday's college basketball best bet

Kansas Under 75.5 points (-105 via Caesars) vs. Texas ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It is tempting to take the points with a Texas team that just simply might be the best in the conference, but Allen Fieldhouse is the ultimate equalizer. Kansas just plays better in Lawrence, as evidenced by last week’s 90-78 victory over Kansas State to get revenge in a rivalry matchup.

That said, I do have concerns regarding the Jayhawks, particularly on the offensive end. They committed 20 turnovers in Saturday’s loss to Iowa State, and have had turnover issues in most of their defeats this season. That doesn’t bode well against a Texas team that is third in the Big 12 in turnover rate since league play began and 27th in the country with a defensive turnover rate of 22.6%.

Teams have figured out how to defend Kansas this season, especially in Big 12 play. Opponents will face guard freshman sharpshooter Gradey Dick while playing drop coverage on pick-and-rolls between K.J. Adams Jr. and Dajuan Harris Jr. This has resulted in the Jalen Wilson show, who has scored 20-plus points in six consecutive games. Bettors could look to the prop market for this game, as Wilson has a line of 20.5 points after sitting at 19.5 prior to Monday's matchup.

But we prefer playing KU’s team total since I project the hosts to score about 72 in a win. There is also an avenue to cashing this Under if Texas ultimately prevails, as the Longhorns are 27th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency and have held their opponent to 75 points or fewer in all eight Big 12 victories this year.

Monday's NHL best bet

Flames-Rangers Over 5.5 (-120 via BetMGM⭐⭐

Both the Flames and Rangers have the ability to play grind out games, but with the Rangers going with their backup goaltender and Calgary’s net game inconsistent, the Over is the play.

The Flames have a 2.87 goals against average on the road, which ranks ninth, but Jacob Markstrom has an .895 save percentage away from the Saddledome.

Veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak will get the start in goal for the Rangers. He has been a solid backup but has barely played on home ice, posting a .883 save percentage and 3.25 goals against average in four starts at Madison Square Garden.

I was already leaning toward the Over when the news came that Halak would get the start in goal ahead of Igor Shesterkin, so it pays to jump quickly to get that 5.5 before it shifts to six.

Most of the top-rated sportsbooks have priced the Over at -120 to -125, though DraftKings moved first to get the total to 6, with the Over at +100 and the Under at -120.

Monday's NBA best bet

Clippers -7 vs. Nets (-110 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

How about those Nets? Brooklyn covered Saturday against the Wizards, pulling off an upset win at Barclay’s Center behind Cam Thomas’ career-high 44 points off the bench. Washington blew a huge lead for the second game in a row, but we won’t be counting on the Clippers to do the same Monday.

Kevin Durant is out, Ben Simmons is questionable, and T.J. Warren is probable. Kyrie Irving is gone, so the Nets will be missing a ton of firepower. The Clippers will have both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard available, and the full-strength Clippers should have no problem winning this one easily on the road.

Monday's PGA Tour best bet

Scottie Scheffler (+1200 via BetMGM)

Thanks to both Rahm and McIlroy entering this event in peak form, we're getting excellent value on the next tier of elite golfers. Though Rahm has plenty of experience in this event and at this venue after attending Arizona State University, he has never won the WM Phoenix Open. McIlroy's only appearance in this event was a T-13 finish in 2021.

The +1200 odds via BetMGM for the defending champion and second-ranked golfer in the world are a tremendous bargain, even in a field with both Rahm and McIlroy. After winning four times last year, Scheffler already has a T-7 and T-11 result in 2023. He's returning to the site of his first PGA Tour victory.

Among the allure to backing Scheffler this week is that he lost 0.40 strokes per round on approach in his victory last year. He's in usual top form with his irons this season, averaging 0.74 true strokes gained: approach on the field per round.

Monday's soccer best bet

Sheffield United-Wrexham both teams to score (-120 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Anything can happen in the FA Cup, as we’ve seen with Wrexham this season. With Sheffield United putting everything into promotion this year, head coach Paul Heckingbottom will likely rest players for this match so he can avoid any injuries to key personnel. However, regardless of who they put out, the Blades should have enough quality to progress to the fifth round.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are on fire. The team doesn’t know how to lose, going 24 games without defeat in all competitions.

There is a buzz around the club. It's three points off the top of the National League with two games in hand. The Welsh side will be fired up for Tuesday, knowing the spotlight is on it and a dream tie at home to Premier League giants Tottenham waiting as its reward.

If Sheffield United field a strong team, they should take care of business. But, with promotion being so crucial for them, it’s difficult to pick a winner in this game. Expect Wrexham to take the match to United, which should open things up.

Both teams are capable of scoring, making this the best pick in a game with so many uncertainties.
