Kick off your bets before the ball is kicked off by wagering on the Super Bowl national anthem, one of the most popular props among our best Super Bowl betting sites. Here's a closer look at the odds surrounding this year's Super Bowl national anthem.

As Super Bowl prop bets go, wagering on the length of the national anthem might be a favorite among people who don't normally bet on sports.

There's a pop culture element to it, of course, with some of the most notable musicians in the world having performed the Super Bowl national anthem over the years.  But it's also one of those prop bets that don't require a deep dive into the Super Bowl odds. You either think the national anthem will finish before the sportsbook time listed, or it will run over that number.

One important note: legal U.S. sportsbooks cannot offer straight odds on the national anthem itself, though it can be combined with a bet found on the game's final stat sheet. For example: will any scoring drive in the game be shorter than the length of the anthem?

Canadian sportsbooks, on the other hand, are permitted to offer straight national anthem prop odds.

After the Conference Championship weekend, the league revealed that well-known singer and songwriter Chris Stapleton would be doing the national anthem. Betting markets for this opened shortly after that announcement.

Super Bowl national anthem history

The chances are good that if someone has performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl, you've heard of them.

Early in the Super Bowl national anthem history books, performances longer than two minutes were special occasions – but we're seeing a lot more held notes these days, as shown by the times of every national anthem singer dating back to 1990:

Here are some trends to glean from the above results:

  • The Over is trending slightly over the past decade, with seven of the previous 11 Super Bowl national anthem renditions running longer than the sportsbook time.
  • Did Kelly Clarkson know about her Super Bowl national anthem odds? The inaugural American Idol champion is the only crooner to hit the sportsbook number right on the nose.
  • If we get another duet at Super Bowl 58, you might want to auto-lock the Over. Only two duos have performed the national anthem, and their performances averaged 2:13.
  • Group acts in general come in longer than average; four groups of two or more singers have performed the Super Bowl national anthem, with the Backstreet Boys (1:49) the quickest.
