We've got an ACC battle with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons traveling to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers who come into this game as favorites at top sportsbooks. Wake Forest is undefeated so far this season and will be hoping to remain that way but they know they face their toughest test of the season from a Virginia team coming off a loss to North Carolina.

Virginia Looking to Bounce Back at Home

Despite losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels, Virginia comes into this contest versus undefeated Wake Forest as 4 point favorites according to the SBR odds page. Most of the top online sports have the total for this one at 67 across the board. Virginia is a very good team with a high-powered offense, highlighted by the fact that they put up 39 points in a loss to North Carolina. They are led by quarterback Brennan Armstrong who surprised a lot of people last season which was his first as a starter.

He has followed up that play this year with more impressive performances. He is a dual-threat QB and will certainly give Wake Forest a lot of headaches in this game. The issues for Virginia come from the other side of the ball where their run defense has really let them down this season. Last season it was their secondary which has been ok this season but overall, their defense really needs to buckle down if this team wants to improve on last season's showing.

Wake Forest Might Be Underrated

On paper, Virginia is the better team but we all know the old cliché about "the game isn't played on paper". I don't think Wake Forest has any reason to fear Virginia and I think this line is slightly high at +4 but my play here is actually on the total. I know Virginia is going to put up a lot of points at home so it's really up to Wake Forest to hold their end of the bargain.

I really believe that they have the weapons to get it done. We've already spoken about Virginia's terrible run defense so far and Wake Forest have a very balanced rushing attack. Last week they had two running backs with 13 plus carries and they aren't the only two getting carries. On top of that, while Sam Hartman might not be a household name, he is a QB with a lot of talent. He also has some very good wide receivers at his disposal in Jaquarii Roberson who was his favorite target last year and A.T Perry who has really stepped up this year.

My Pick

I don't think either one of these teams can stop the other from scoring and I do believe one of them has the potential to get into the 40's. Either way, I see a high-scoring game from two teams with very good offenses and some deficiencies that can be exploited. I feel like 67 is just too low for these two teams that have good quarterback play which in college football certainly can't be taken for granted.
