My Ohio State vs. Iowa same-game parlay sees No. 14 Iowa with a chance to deliver a signature performance against No. 6 Ohio State. The Hawkeyes pair their typical rugged defense with, now, a semblance of a passing game to pace their championship aspirations. But containing Jeremiah Smith on the other side is still not a given.

With Ohio State a 14.5-point betting favorite, the action kicks off from Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS).

🚀 Best Ohio State vs. Iowa SGP & parlay picks

Under 45.5 (-110)

This is a matchup featuring two of the nation’s top 10 defenses in adjusted efficiency, and Iowa’s best chance to compete in this matchup is to control the ball to shorten the game.

The Hawkeyes allow just 10.7 points per game to their opponents, ranking fourth in the country. Ohio State is similarly stout, allowing 12.3 PPG.

Iowa +14.5 (-118)

Such a massive spread gives us a lot of wiggle room for the Hawkeyes to stay within the number in our projected game script that sees the total stay Under 45.5.

The primary concern is Iowa’s offense — ranked 54th in FPI’s adjusted efficiency metric — avoiding a shutout or single-digit scoring performance. But the Hawkeyes have scored 16 or more points in both of their Power Four games. A final score in the 27-13 range, for example, would align with our script.

Jeremiah Smith Over 123.5 receiving yards (-114)

This leg of the parlay is a contrarian angle relative to the rest of the picks, which can boost our overall parlay odds through reverse correlation. But would it surprise anyone to see Smith as an exception to the rule of a defensive struggle of a game?

Though Iowa ranks 21st in pass defense, allowing only 168.7 yards per game, Michigan passed for 276 yards against the Hawkeye defense. The Wolverines’ leading receiver produced 130 yards, so Smith (averaging 154.5 receiving yards per game) should still have room to flourish.
