We're less than a month from the world's most popular sports spectacle, which will feature 48 teams for the first time. My World Cup predictions feature three plays across different markets, with the spotlight placed on England, the Netherlands, and Harry Kane.

Kane should be a shoo-in to win this year's Ballon d'Or. He's been that elite, not just because of his ridiculous goal-scoring exploits, but also due to his ability to set up teammates. Let's get stuck in.

England to reach semifinal (+170)

I'm backing England to win it all for the first time since 1966 if you're wondering which team will win the World Cup. However, anything can happen in the semifinal or final, which is why betting on England to make the final four is the best bet.

You'll still earn $17 on a winning $10 bet, and the Three Lions are well-equipped for a deep run.

Harry Kane is the best striker in the world, which I'll go into more in my Golden Boot bet, and he's accompanied by a collection of top-tier offensive players, including Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Bukayo Saka.

Declan Rice, who has led Arsenal to the Champions League final, is arguably the world's best defensive midfielder. John Stones offers a steady veteran presence at the heart of defense. England enjoyed an immaculate qualifying campaign, highlighted by conceding no goals in eight matches. While that doesn't mean much in the World Cup, it shows how difficult Thomas Tuchel's side is to break down.

Netherlands to win Group F (-120)

The Netherlands is the classiest team in Group F, which includes Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia.

Japan looks especially strong, and Sweden can beat any team on its day, but the Netherlands has an abundance of pedigree and World Cup experience.

They have elite players at every position, with Cody Gakpo leading the frontline and veteran Virgil van Dijk marshalling the rearguard. While I don't see the Netherlands posing a threat to win it all, it should win the group.

Harry Kane to win Golden Boot (+750)

Not even Kylian Mbappe played at Harry Kane's level during the 2025-26 season. While Kane has the second-shortest Golden Boot odds behind Mbappe, I like the England captain to eclipse the six goals he scored at the 2018 World Cup.

Kane was spectacular this season, scoring 55 goals in 49 matches, including 33 in 30 Bundesliga matches and 14 in 13 Champions League contests. The latter is the most impressive tally, and I expect him to be revved up for what will likely be his penultimate World Cup.

He'll probably play in the 2030 World Cup, but he won't be in his prime. That will add further motivation for England's all-time goal-scoring leader.

💡 World Cup prediction markets

World Cup prediction markets feature a bevy of betting options, which we've outlined ahead of the world's most popular sporting event.

💡 How I'm betting World Cup 2026

For the Golden Boot, it's critical to pick someone who has the best chance of making a deep run. Erling Haaland can score in bunches, and he will probably break it open in the group stage. However, Norway probably won't make it beyond the quarterfinal, which is why I'm backing Kane.

I love the Netherlands pick so much, I'm investing 2 units. I'm slightly concerned about Japan, but the Netherlands should do just enough to secure first place.

If you're not confident in England making the semifinal, back the Three Lions to qualify for the quarterfinal. You'll get -140 odds for that pick, and I'd be shocked to see England bow out before the final eight.
