Yale vs. Auburn Player Props & March Madness Odds: Tough Test for Towering Wolf

If Yale hopes to pull off the shocking upset against Auburn, it'll need a big day from 7-foot center Danny Wolf in Friday's first-round matchup.

The heavily favored Auburn Tigers clash with the Yale Bulldogs in the opening round of the East Region on Friday, as we offer our NCAA Tournament Yale vs. Auburn prediction and player props based on the best March Madness odds.

The No. 4 Auburn Tigers have a strong case for a higher ranking due to their exceptional regular-season performance, highlighted by winning the SEC Tournament championship. They're set to face the No. 13 Yale Bulldogs in the first round on Friday.

Auburn's outstanding defense propelled them through a challenging SEC schedule. Conversely, Yale relied on the dominant performances of their 7-foot star, Danny Wolf, to capture the Ivy League title. This sets the stage for an intriguing matchup with the Tigers.

As part of our March Madness predictions, here is our best Yale vs. Auburn prediction and college basketball picks (odds via our best March Madness betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Yale vs. Auburn odds

Yale (13) vs. Auburn (4) prediction: East Region

Danny Wolf Under 20.5 points + rebounds ⭐⭐⭐

Best odds: -105 via DraftKings

No matter how you slice it, this is a tough draw for Yale against an underseeded Auburn team that features one of the best defenses in the country. And it's an especially difficult matchup for Wolf.

First, let's give some credit where it's due for the 7-foot, 255-pound sophomore, who leads the Bulldogs in points (14.3 PPG) and rebounds (9.8 RPG) and is a huge reason (literally) why Yale is still dancing. He burst onto the scene as the star for Team Isreal at the 2023 FIBA Under-20 European Championships, but he's carried that momentum into an impressive season in 2023-24.

All of that said, this is a different test entirely against the Tigers' defense, which ranks fourth in adjusted efficiency and allows the nation's lowest 2-point percentage (42.8%) and effective field-goal percentage (43.4%).

At the center of Auburn's ferocious defense is NBA hopeful Johni Broome, who ranks 25th nationally in block rate (9.5%) and 37th in defensive rebound rate (25.7%). He also checks in at No. 2 in KenPom's Player of the Year standings and has blocked a combined 11 shots in his last five games entering the tournament.

Wolf enters Friday having fallen short of this prop total in three of his last eight games against Ivy League competition - a league that isn't exactly teeming with 7-footers. He also fell well short in previous games against Gonzaga (0 points, six rebounds) and Kansas (11 points, six rebounds), the only top-60 opponents he faced all season.

Yale vs. Auburn best odds

DraftKings (-105)

DraftKings FanDuel
Under 20.5 Under 21.5
-105 -120

Four of our five best sports betting sites are offering player props for this game, but only two are offering combo props for Wolf ahead of Friday's contest. While FanDuel is hanging a slightly higher total, DraftKings is dealing much better odds for a total one tick lower - and we'll gladly take the extra value in a tough matchup for the Yale star.

I'd also highly recommend checking out our March Madness betting promos ahead of this contest, especially with so many sportsbooks featuring competitive bonus offers ahead of March Madness.

Yale vs. Auburn spread & Over/Under analysis

Auburn opened this contest laying anywhere from 11.5 to 12.5 points against Yale, and we've seen the spread bet up to -13 at DraftKings with a line of -12.5 across the rest of our best sportsbooks. That comes as KenPom is projecting a 77-65 win for the favorite Tigers.

The total opened as low as 138.5 but is dealing at a near-consensus of 140.5 at four of our five best sports betting apps. The lone outlier is Caesars, which is a good target for Under bettors with a total of 141 as of Wednesday.
