Mexico can’t count on some important players but need to do their best not to disappoint in their important test against Peru on Saturday night. Here are our top Mexico vs. Peru picks.

Mexico head coach Gerardo Martino will not be able to field any of Raúl Jiménez, Jorge Sanchez, Luis Romo, Hector Herrera, or Rogelio Funes Mori, who are out of his plans because of injuries. Martino will need to find balance and bite in his team for the duel against a wicked opponent. Peru only missed out on a World Cup spot after losing on penalties to Australia in an intercontinental playoff in June.

Here are our Mexico vs. Peru picks (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Mexico vs. Peru ML Pick

Draw (+200) ★★★

Mexico have been far from impressive in their latest outings, but the players understand the importance of each match now that only a short road separates them from the World Cup. It’s not an official matchup, but it could well help Martino decide on certain individuals before he makes his final calls for the final tournament in Qatar.

Peru changed managers, replacing Ricardo Gareca with Juan Maximo Reynoso. Reynoso was a champion in Mexico both as a player and as a manager with Cruz Azul, so the opposition hides no secrets. The Peruvian players will surely want to impress their new boss, but Mexico’s motivation is still superior considering the status quo. As a result, even if circumstances dictate an open game, it’s still expected to be close between the two.

Mexico vs. Peru O/U Pick

Under 2.5 (-182) ★★★

Mexico has scoring problems and Martino misses both Jimenez and Funes Mori in the attack. Add to that the fact that the Mexico boss is known for his prudent approach and that Peru is an opponent of similar quality. Mexico will not want to risk too much, as confidence is vital at this point going into the last stages of preparation for the World Cup.

Peru feels no pressure, but it’s likely that they won’t go against the Mexican wave and overwhelm El Tri in their own half.

Mexico vs. Peru Prop Pick

Henry Martin to score (+600) ★★★

Gerardo Martino stood firm when asked about the possibility of calling LA Galaxy’s Chicharito Hernandez back to represent his country, underlining that the former Man. United and Real Madrid star is not part of his plans. Martino is showing he’s not hesitant when big decisions need to be made, also adding that the other MLS Mexican star forward, Carlos Vela, is not being considered for a surprise re-call to El Tri.

Martino made no secret that he’ll take three forwards to Qatar, leaving one of Raul Jimenez (Wolves), Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord), Henry Martin (Club America), and Rogelio Funes Mori (Monterrey) to support Mexico from home.

With Jimenez and Funes Mori out with injuries, it could be a great chance for in-form Martin to cement his place in the final squad. Martin scored 10 goals for Club America this season, so he should extend his great run with a goal for the national side if he is to be part of Mexico’s World Cup dream in less than two months.
