Monday's NFL best bet

Chiefs vs. Eagles Under 49.5 (-108 via WynnBet) ⭐⭐⭐

Patrick Mahomes finished the AFC Championship Game going 29-for-43 for 326 yards and two touchdowns, but much of the focus over the next two weeks will be around the health of Kansas City’s wide receiving corps. Kadarius Toney, Mecole Hardman, and JuJu Smith-Schuster all left Sunday's game due to injuries, leaving Mahomes with tight end Travis Kelce (who now has the second-most playoff receiving yards all-time with 1,467) and unproven pass catchers like Skyy Moore and Marcus Kemp.

All three wide receivers will have an extra week to get healthy, and Mahomes himself will get time to heal an ankle injury that bothered him at times against Cincinnati. But we saw how aggressive Philadelphia’s defense was against San Francisco when it smelled blood with how banged up the 49ers were, and the Eagles allowed just 164 total yards.

Philadelphia is built to win any style of game, from a shootout to a ground-and-pound defensive struggle. The Eagles did not break San Francisco’s streak of not allowing a 70-plus-yard rusher (now 28 consecutive games), but Kenneth Gainwell, Miles Sanders, and Hurts each carried the ball at least 11 times, and the team churned out 148 yards on the ground.

Hurts has a 7-0 TD-INT ratio in three games against top-10 rushing defenses this season. However, Kansas City entered the AFC Championship Game with 241 quarterback pressures and a league-leading 198 times contacting the quarterback; the Chiefs then added five sacks and 12 quarterback hits against Burrow. That pressure, along with the Eagles ranking first in sacks, first in total yards per game allowed, and sixth in points per game allowed, are reasons we are backing a lower-than-expected-scoring Super Bowl.

Monday's college basketball best bet

Baylor +3.5 (-106 via FanDuel) vs. Texas ⭐⭐⭐

Perhaps this spread gets to 4, but we have to make our pick while writing this column. I do see enough value on the Baylor side based on my numbers to bet the road team at 3.5 here, with +3 being the lowest I would go on this pick.

Baylor is lethal on the offensive end, ranking No. 2 in adjusted offensive efficiency. It is why we were on the Bears against Kansas last week, in which Baylor took a team-high 16 shot attempts out of isolation while hunting mismatches in the win. The Longhorns are even worse in such scenarios, ranking in the 10th percentile in the country by allowing 0.929 points per possession against isolation via the charting at Synergy Sports Technology.

This isn’t the same Texas team we have become accustomed to. The Longhorns rank No. 35 in adjusted defensive efficiency, which is sixth in the conference. Baylor (No. 79 in adjusted defensive efficiency) is the worst in the league on that end of the floor, but few teams can match the firepower of the backcourt trio of Keyontae George, Adam Flagler, and LJ Cryer.

This total opened north of 150, so oddsmakers are expecting points to be scored in Monday's matchup. If this game comes down to who you trust more on offense, it is hard not to like getting more than possession with the Bears.

Monday's NHL best bet

Pierre-Luc Dubois anytime goal vs. Blues (+160 via Caesats)

This has been a breakout season for Dubois, the 24-year-old Jets center. He has 22 goals and 52 points in 51 games and has produced at least one goal in 12 of 25 home games.

Dubois has seen his ice time steadily increase throughout the season, to nearly 19 minutes per game in January, and he gets first unit power play time in addition to skating on a line with dangerous playmaking winger Kyle Connor and skilled rookie Cole Perfetti.

Dubois goes against a Blues squad that ranks 26th in shots against per 60 minutes on the road and 28th in goals against per 60 minutes on the road.

St. Louis’ expected starter in net, Jordan Binnington, has a .892 save percentage away from the Enterprise Center, which ranks 58th among 68 goaltenders that have played least 500 minutes on the road.

Binnington has allowed at least four goals against in eight of his past 14 starts, and if the Jets start filling the net, Dubois is likely to be one of the goal scorers.

Monday's NBA best bet

D'Angelo Russell Over 6.5 assists vs. Kings (+115 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Welcome back to the assists prop D'Angelo Russell! He has been kind to us the last several times we have backed him, so let's hope he can earn us another green check mark on Monday.

In my same-game parlay picks for Monday, I highlighted Russell's edge as one of the best among the six players included in the parlay. As such, we also find ourselves making a single bet on him.

Considering Russell is projected to drop 7.3 assists against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, we can price this prop at -140. Since we're getting +115 from BetMGM on this prop, we're back on the Russell bandwagon.

With a positive expected value of 25%, this bet receives a four-star rating. To maximize your edge, be sure to take advantage of the +115 price point at BetMGM and DraftKings.
