Been warning about situations like this for awhile here. These companies may be the proverbial "fly in the ointment".
Very curious to me that no one seems to mentioning Fidelity. ??? I lost access and apparently many others. In my opinion the media is underplaying this.
Best to all,
Akamai’s Edge DNS service is one of the largest “internet infrastructure” services. Edge DNS serves financial institutions, travel companies, media players, and other cloud services.
But with great power comes great responsibility. Edge DNS crashed today, taking a chunk of the internet with it. Reportedly, Oracle Cloud was also down around the same time. For a few hours, it was DEFCON 1 for IT people everywhere. Not great.
Internet infrastructure has become more and more centralized over the years. A handful of companies (like Cloudflare, Fastly, Azure CDN, and Akamai) have turned into keymasters of the free web.
Generally, these few companies do a great job. The bad news?? They crash every once in a while, causing headaches for companies and their customers (us). FedEx, Amazon, Airbnb, and HBO Max were among the companies affected by today’s outage.
Fortunately, Akamai’s product was down for about two hours before the company restored service. Investors weren’t too upset—$AKAM fell just 0.56% today.Comment -

#10266Ben buying AL today. A really great company that was mauled by the pandemic.
It's a $40 stock with a $55 book value that has made money every quarter since Moby Dick was a minnow even in the pandemic.Comment -

#10268yea I saw it. But why are these redundant networks down? And when they bring them back up they could block IP’s their software tells them could be the nefarious source. Although most of the time, like plane crashes, it’s good old fashion human error.
Decent week after a brutal start.Comment -

#10270yes we are in "any excuse to sell off" territory at these levels as my buddy KVBer likes to day but this represents buying opps at the right intervals, so have your war chest ready and dry gun powder at the ready if any strong blue chip dips ~8% or more.Comment -

#10271Boys get ready for a big week. We got the Fed meeting and we got earnings from Big tech to big oil and everything in-between.
There will likely be some covid updates with the Pfizer report.
Futures starting out flat. I'd be careful with possibly more head fakes aLa -750 last Monday only to finish higher for the week.Comment -

HealthCare.gov Obamacare Website to Cost Taxpayers More Than $1 Billion
Healthcare.gov, the federal Obamacare website, will cost taxpayers over $1 billion, according to congressional testimony submitted by HHS nominee Sylvia Mathews Burwell.
In response to questions from Sen. Lamar Alexander (R–Tenn.), Burwell noted that $834 million had already been obligated to the glitch-prone website as of Feb. 28, with “a need for approximately $200 million” more from taxpayers through Fiscal Year 2015.

Governments and (I might presume) central banks are incapable of building IT infrastructure cost effectively.
Which could be why venezuela failed to rollout their CBDC, which they promised would be backed by oil, years ago.Last edited by Sanity Check; 07-26-21, 06:48 AM.Comment -

#10275Yeah, I want some of that Fed Coin.
But don't listen to me, I just blew all of my short IWM money from the last month trying to buy puts on the SPY last week.Luckily, there's more short money coming from the IWM in the near future. I still say that 10-15% correction is on the way before October, so I'll probably try the SPY buying Puts thing again on the next market stumble, so long as I can offset any downfall with the IWM shorting that has been successful.
Also think that this week may be a sell the news scenario with BIG Ass Tech. Sure the number are going to be blow out redonkulous but it may not be enough, or even matter. The selling may start, and if the interest yields start to rise it will escalate the selling. Most IWM stocks are also having real good numbers but it ain't helping them.
On the other side, it just may be the duck that it looks like, everything should be all systems go with the interest rates subsiding, and blow out numbers coming from most if not all of the big hitters this week.
From the charting front, despite all of that rallying last week several indexes did not make it above the 20 week moving average (%DJT, IWM, XLF{missed by 1 cent}). Others smashed through or never even got to the 20 week moving average for support (QQQ & SPY{didn't come close to 20WMA}, SMH{regain}.
Interest rates (TLT) came up and got the pound sand routine as it spiked the 50 WMA, and fell like a rock but found some pretty good support by the end of the week as it hit the 100DMA.
So still some divergences to work through this week, and remember that Delta variant is out there and it looks like all the governments are starting to push that scare tactic of deathand destruction even though when you look at the numbers people just aren't dying at the rate to justify it.
My kids asked me to step slightly into the present and start using the little cartoon characters, not sure I like it yet, but it does break things up a little.Comment -

#10276Week PlanLikely the last few weeks here to buy reopening trades, which still have some of the best upside in market, next small caps growth and energy. US Covid cases will go parabolic and likely dwarf UK, which already rolled over cases 45 days into surge. All you have to do is look at statements by officials, “disease of unvaccinated” “masks mandates may be necessary”....nothing about lockdowns....to me this means economy stays open, maybe slows down but economy was red hot...I’ll keep watching US10Y for signs of bottoming and would consider that the last chance to buy your favorite airline, hotel, retail store or bank, if that’s even part of your approach. I also like getting ahead of football season here and buying at least one online gambling stonk if you haven’t already...$DKNG $PDYPY $WYNN....i would consider buying any weakness in crypto related assets like GBTC ETHE COIN SOS VYGVF over the next few weeks
Heading to Jamaica this morning. Have a great week, remember HOOD ipo could be a massive sell signal!
I drew a top trend line on the VIX and if it rips through it just stay still until it tops, if it bounces right off it’s just another BTFD opportunityComment -

#10279If you're not into crypto mining and "Net Carbon Neutral" you can stop here:
I am and own MARA and RIOT. I've been concerned about their Carbon effects in general.
This article is a bit old (5 days) but I'd be interested in any of your thoughts about this SPAC. Little concerned about SPAC's initial offerings in general and why it hasn't already been listed but I think one to watch.
If you read further , I was intrigued by the coins gleaned versus MARA and RIOT and obviously think the Carbon neutral is big.
Thoughts??

#10281Carbon neutral agenda in crypto is misinformation.
The overwhelming majority of crypto miners use hydroelectric, wind and renewable power. Those sectors being the cheapest sources of power that can be found coupled with crypto mining being highly mobile make that the market path of least resistance.
Crypto miners in china and elsewhere using coal power are state subsidized ops. If states and governments didn't make arrangements with crypto miners to use dirty coal energy to create jobs and boost local economies, very little if any of crypto mining would be carbon negative.Comment -

#10286So as I was watching paint dry today, I had a little time to look inside all of the indexes in detail. It looks like XLF is gaining energy to bust out and bust out large.I think if it does, 38.50 is a good level and a pretty good move from the current price of 36.47. I'll taking another options play tomorrow to make amends to last week's debacle in the XLF 36.50 strike price to buy calls at around 50-60 cents a contract that expire next Friday. Once again I'll toss out enough for a 1/2 position which is around 5dimes, and if it moves against me I'll add to it up to the other half a position. Last week that ended up costing me about $7500 in the end, but that is the life of a trader, sometime you hit winners and other times you get down in the slurry and end up smelling like shyt.
I don't think it will however. There is a Robinhood IPO later on Thursday with just about all of the big boy banks involved. If the markets tank that will hurt the offering so the banks just wont allow that to happen via their trading desks.
The Fed will trout on out on Wednesday and probably announce that even though inflation is transitory, they are now thinking about raising rates sometime sooner than they originally said and that should send the market running either up or down, your guess is as good as mine. Either way if the market takes off and runs, I'll be cashing in on the options, if the market tanks, I think I can count on the big banks to save the day and move the markets back up so that the IPO is a hit on Thursday.
So add up all the things that are going on, XLF making a Bull flag, Robin Hood IPO, and the Fed Meeting, and I have what I call a Slurry Pumping hole clearing move here for not a lot of cash.
BTW where is the Snowballer with the earnings report chart?Comment -
