💰 Best World Cup prediction today

Brazil vs. Japan both teams to score: yes

The day opens up with a match that should treat us to a clash of tactics.

Brazil's verticality is a challenge for any opponent, headlined by Vini Jr., Matheus Cunha, and top-tier midfield control with Casemiro and Guimaraes. This afternoon, it meets one of the more disciplined defenses in the tournament, Japan, which allowed only three goals in group play despite facing the Netherlands and Sweden.

Japan's attack isn't as prolific as Brazil's, but it's every bit as effective. Japan posted a 26% shot-conversion rate in the group stage, the best of any of the 48 teams in the tournament, and they'll get their chances today against Brazil. They've scored in 10 straight games and will make it 11 today.

Brazil vs. Japan odds: Brazil (-135) | Draw (+265) | Japan (+400)

💵 SBR Edge: xG tells the story

Brazil has averaged over 2 xG per game in the group stage (7.3 total, scoring seven), but they've been middle of the road defense and with 2.6 xG conceded (and just one actually given up). Japan has perhaps been a little unlucky, giving up three goals on 1.5 xG conceded.

xG only tells part of a story, but the story these tell is that both teams should be able to do their bit here.

Germany vs. Paraguay card spread: Paraguay +1  (+175)

Germany will dominate possession today. They recorded 61.7% through the group stage, good for eighth, while Paraguay clocked in at ljust 33.4% while playing a low-block.

So, with Germany's crafty midfielders (like Wirtz and Musiala) dominating possession and working through lines to find half spaces, Paraguay will be forced to pick up fouls against the superior side.

And it's not as though Germany has been entirely foul prone throughout the tournament or something. Paraguay averaged 13.7 across the group stage (with seven yellows, although five came in their opener), while Germany was at just 11 fouls/game and one yellow.

This is a three-way market so there's a chance of losing with a +1 tie here, but I see Paraguay racking up more fouls and cards today.

Kickoff time: 4:30 p.m. ET
Germany vs. Paraguay odds: Germany (-275) | Draw (+400) | Paraguay (+800)

Archaf Hakimi to record 2+ shots (-125) vs. Netherlands

Hakimi has been the driving force for Morocco throughout the tournament, recording 10 shots across three group-stage games and hitting that mark in each. Morocco is undervalued in the public eye against a team like the Netherlands, which has a better-known name in households, and Hakimi, playing at right-back, is further undervalued compared to those up front. But he posted the best xG of any fullback in the group stage, and you don't get there without firing shots.

Morocco's structure will help them withstand the Netherlands' explosive attack and keep them in the game, and Hakimi will have plenty of opportunities to expose space behind the Dutch fullbacks. Morocco will need to rely on its counterattacking tonight, and that runs through Hakimi.

Kickoff time: 9 p.m. ET
Netherlands vs. Morocco odds: Netherlands (+130) | Draw (+210) | Morocco (+250)
