Two undefeated teams clash on Thursday in the Leagues Cup and my Cruz Azul vs. Chicago Fire FC prediction digs deep into the pivotal clash. Chicago is the "visitor," but it's still almost a home game as the action is set for 9 p.m. ET at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill. Apple TV will stream the game as part of its Leagues Cup coverage.

Liga MX's Cruz Azul is lined as a +130 moneyline betting favorite on the three-way line, with the draw lined at +240 and the Fire at +160.

⚽ Who will win Cruz Azul vs. Chicago Fire FC?

This is shaping up to be an exciting, hard-battled clash. I'm giving a slight edge to Cruz Azul to pick up the victory.

While it's been a small sample size, the reigning Liga MX holders (Clausura 2026) have impressed again to start the season, with 2.46 xG, 8.66 SOT, and 5.33 big chances per game in domestic play. While Chicago's defense is good, it's not so good as to totally nullify that type of presence. They essentially do everything Chicago does, but they do it just slightly better. I'm backing the team that should be able to control most of the possession on Thursday.

Score prediction:  Cruz Azul 2, Chicago Fire 1

💵 My best bet: Chicago Fire Over 4.5 corners (+110)

Chicago's corner numbers have been a little deceivingly high in the Leagues Cup, but I still think this number is attainable - and it's in line with what they've accomplished during domestic play.

Azul should line up in a 5-3-2 formation, meaning their wingbacks should push high during possession and offensive phases, and Chicago should be able to take advantage of the spaces that open up in transition play. Those transitional plays should also lead to Azul playing with a back three while the wingbacks get back into shape, and that situation spells deflections out of bounds for crosses and shots.

I see Chicago playing catchup in this one, and that should mean keeping the pressure up throughout to pile up corners.

🦶 Who will score in Cruz Azul vs. Chicago Fire FC?

Jose Paradela, M/F, Cruz Azul (+225)

Cruz's attacking baseline has been excellent to start the season, and Paradela is well-positioned to take advantage.

With four shots (two on target) in each of the two games to start the Leagues Cup, Paradela has shown a clear attacking role. He's scored in both of the squads LC games, and was second on the team across both of the Apertura 2025 and the Clausura 2026 with nine goals.

He actually piled up eight assists last year, too, leading the club. His G+A/90 was 0.61, so he's no stranger to the scoresheet, and his "to score or assist (-105)" isn't out of line - it's actually more appealing to me than the "to score" market.

Cruz Azul vs. Chicago Fire FC goal-scorer pick: Jose Paradela (+225 via bet365)

🥅 Will both teams score in Cruz Azul vs. Chicago Fire FC?

I do think both squads find the back of the net on Thursday, unfortunately, so do the sportsbooks (both teams to score: yes is priced at -175).

I've explained above why I think Azul will get the job done, but touching on Chicago: wow, this team has looked explosive during the tournament. Bringing in Robert Lewandowski to replace Hugo Cuypers has created all sorts of trouble for opposing defenses, and while Lewandowski hasn't scored yet in the tournament, just his presence changes how things look for the opposition.

Chicago has scored five times from an xG over 6, and have piled up over five shots on target per game in domestic play. Both teams should score Thursday, but the price is too steep.

Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: Yes (-175 via bet365)
