Saturday’s NHL prop picks

Bruins ML vs. Red Wings (-141 via BetRivers)  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Bruins have picked up where they left off in 2022-23 after going 62-12-5. Boston is now off to a 9-0-1 start in 2023-24.

On the other side, the Red Wings put together a hot start of their own with six straight wins after a hard-fought loss in New Jersey to open the campaign. The Wings have regressed a bit with a 1-3-1 record over their last five games since then.

Boston may be without Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk on the blue line, but the B's should be able to overcome those absences. They beat the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night and have recorded the league's seventh-best xGF% at five-on-five (54.73%). The Red Wings are 10th worst in that category at 47.51%.

The Bruins are simply the much better team and -141 is a great price for Boston on Saturday in Detroit.

Senators ML vs. Lightning (-118 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Senators face a tough opponent in the Lightning on Saturday night, but only in name. Tampa Bay doesn’t boast the same talent as recent years, especially without Andrei Vasilevskiy in net.

The Lightning are just 4-3-3 on the season and 0-3-1 on the road. While the Senators have been enduring their struggles too, they've been decent on home ice at 3-3-0 compared to 1-2-0 on the road.

Ottawa already beat Tampa Bay in 2023-24 as -138 favorites. The Sens outshot the Bolts 38-24 in that game too. It was their third straight win over the Lightning, and Tampa Bay's last victory in Ottawa came in 2021.

The Lightning just lost on the road in Columbus, and this is a great get-right spot for the Senators at home.

Hurricanes-Islanders Under 5.5 (+100 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Hurricanes and Islanders face off on Saturday night in what should be an intense Metropolitan Division matchup. Both teams are known for their defensive styles, and that’s been showing recently.

Carolina wasn’t quite itself early in the season, as the Canes were outscored 30-28 in their first six games. That’s nearly 10 total goals per contest. However, since then Carolina has produced a goal differential of 10-9 in its last five games, including 10-6 during a 3-1-0 stretch.

Hurricanes games have gone Under in their last five matchups, and Islanders contests have gone Under in six of their nine outings.

Sharks team total Under 2.5 vs. Penguins (-115 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Sharks are hitting new lows for an NHL team. They’ve scored just 10 goals total through 10 games, and the club allowed 10 goals to the Canucks on Thursday.

San Jose has been shut out twice, held to one goal in seven games, and the Sharks scored three goals once. The Sharks' team total Under on 2.5 has hit in nine of their first 10 games in 2023-24.

Meanwhile, the Penguins have endured a rough start to their season as well, but they've at least produced a few dominant wins. They're only 3-6-0 on the campaign, but those victories were 4-0 in Washington, 5-2 over the Calgary Flames, and 4-0 against the Avalanche.

Take the Sharks to go Under 2.5 goals to the bank, and consider an Under on 1.5 too.
