Kirill the Thrill is living up to his nickname. The Minnesota Wild left winger has the most points per game (1.59), extending his lead as the Hart Trophy odds favorite.

Kirill Kaprizov is trading ahead of former winners Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov at our best NHL betting sites, an impressive feat considering how quickly the aforementioned trio is collecting points.

  • Connor Hellebuyck (+3000) is the only goaltender among the 10 favorites. A goaltender hasn't won since Carey Price in 2015

Hart Trophy favorites 2024-25

Kirill Kaprizov (+165)

To stay atop the Hart Trophy odds leaderboard with the likes of McDavid and MacKinnon in the rearview is no easy feat, but Kaprizov deserves his top-dog status.

The left-winger has been held pointless in just five of 27 contests thus far. He has 14 multi-point games, including a streak of seven straight at the start of the season. The 27-year-old has 29 points in 16 road games, an average of 1.81.

That's far superior to everyone but Kucherov, scoring at a 1.92 point-per-game clip on the road. Maybe most impressively, Kaprizov has the second-best plus-minus in enemy rinks (+15), only trailing teammate Jake Middleton (+20).

He's 15 points ahead of any teammate, showcasing just how dominant and influential he's been to Minnesota's sizzling start. Nobody will be shocked to hear that the Wild have the league's third-best road points percentage, largely thanks to The Thrill's away exploits.

Whether Kaprizov can sustain this torrid pace is the million-dollar question, as his previous career best is 108 points in 81 games, which equates to 1.33 points per game.

Kaprizov has a 20 shooting percentage, just under 3% better than his previous best. It has already decreased by 0.8% over the last week.

Over the last seven days, his odds shortened drastically, from +300 to +165. If you're keen on backing Kaprizov, I'd wait for his odds to lengthen. I still doubt his staying power against three players who will almost invariably continue their torrid pace throughout the season. And I think an implied probability of 37.74% at this stage of the season is way too high, particularly considering how rampant the other three top contenders are.

Connor McDavid (+310)

McDavid is back to his best after enduring a frustrating start, which included an ankle injury that forced him out of the lineup for three games.

Since returning, he's been unstoppable. When the Oilers are in top form, so too is their captain.

He has four points in nine Edmonton losses and 30 points in 14 wins. Not much else needs to be said. As usual, he's far superior on home ice, mainly thanks to exploiting better matchups. The ice is also ranked among the best at Rogers Place. He has 23 points in 14 home games and 15 in 11 road contests.

The best is yet to come from the world's best hockey player, and I'm putting my money on him, as I feel nobody else on the planet can stop him when he's in the mood, which is almost always. His odds lengthened from +310 to +350 last week, offering an idyll time to lock him in.

My 2025 Hart Trophy player to watch

Connor Hellebuyck (+3000)

If any goaltender can break the nine-year drought, it's Hellebuyck. After seeing his odds improve from +3500 to +2500, they have since decreased to +3000.

Hellebuyck won his last three starts after losing three in a row for the first time this season. He has the best goals-saved above expected (16.8), leapfrogging Lukas Dostal last week.

He's tied with Filip Gustavsson for the best save percentage (.927) and has the second-best goals-against average (2.09) among goaltenders who've played at least 20 games.

He's also got three goose eggs, tied for the most with the Montreal Canadiens' Sam Montembeault.

He does, however, have the unenviable job of convincing the decision-makers that a goaltender can, in fact, be worthy of winning the Hart.

How to bet on Hart Trophy futures odds

Understand the odds: Familiarize yourself with the odds listed by each sportsbook for different players to win the Hart Trophy. The player with the lowest odds is considered the favorite.

Look at historical data: Has the player previously won the award, and what position does the individual you're considering backing play? Centers have won over three times as many Hart Trophies as any other position.

Look at the supporting cast: Who does the Hart Trophy candidate play alongside? Will they help or hinder his chances of winning MVP?

Research player performances: Dive into the statistics of the player. The Hart Trophy is usually handed out to an offensive leader, so concentrate on associated stats. Does the player perform better against teams he plays more often?

Stay up to date: Make sure you stay current on injuries to the candidate and his supporting cast. Find out whether there are any suspensions and also look at strength of schedule. Is the player on a hot or cold streak?

Cash-out or hold: Depending on how the season progresses and the player's performance, you can cash out if the odds are in your favor or hold onto your bet until the end of the season to see if your chosen player wins the Hart.

How to read Hart Trophy futures odds

Reading Hart Trophy odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
