New Jersey Devils' new bench boss Sheldon Keefe is the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award odds favorite as the season nears, a place he has retained since the odds were released.

Now it's time to see if Keefe will live up to the hype. The Devils' coach had an excellent 212-97-40 regular-season record during his tenure in Toronto.

He'll lead a Devils team that is among the Stanley Cup odds favorites.

Nashville Predators head coach Andrew Brunette and Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green are in the immediate chasing pack, according to our best NHL betting sites. As is Keefe's replacement in Toronto, Craig Berube.

Here are the latest notes related to the Jack Adams favorites:

  • None of the five favorites have previously won the award
  • Last season's Jack Adams Award winner, Rick Tocchet (+6000), is at or near the bottom of the oddsboard
  • Only one coach, Jacques Demers in 1988 and 1989 with the Detroit Red Wings, has won the Jack Adams Award in consecutive seasons
  • Three of the four favorites (Keefe, Green, Berube) were appointed as their team's head coach during the offseason, while Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch is entering his first full season in charge

Jack Adams favorites 2024-25

Sheldon Keefe (+1000)

Keefe opened as the 2025 Jack Adams favorite despite just arriving in New Jersey. We aren't too concerned about the lofty expectations after leaving one of the most high-pressure jobs in the NHL.

Keefe has taken the helm of a team that bitterly disappointed last season. The Devils are expected to be much better in 2024-25, more closely emulating their success in 2022-23. Keefe is lucky enough to walk onto the job with a bonafide No. 1 netminder, Vezina Trophy odds candidate Jacob Markstrom.

Having Markstrom between the pipes should help considerably with the new coach's transition.

Best odds: +700 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 12.50%

Craig Berube (+1000)

The new Maple Leafs' bench boss should be the perfect fit in Toronto, at least in the short term. Berube is one of the best motivators and will almost certainly galvanize the collective.

I expect Berube, who won the Cup as the St. Louis Blues' head coach in 2019, to have a fantastic first year behind the bench at Scotiabank Arena.

Best odds: +1200 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 7.69%

Kris Knoblauch (+1800)

What a first season Knoblauch had behind the Oilers' bench. Appointed on Nov. 12 last season, Knoblauch led the Oilers to a league-best 46-18-5 record. That was before the first-year head coach guided Edmonton within two goals of winning its first Stanley Cup in 34 years.

That will be a hard act to follow, and it will be interesting to see how the players perform in their second season under Knoblauch's stewardship. We all know what happened to his predecessor, Jay Woodcroft, after the gloss on his tenure faded.

I don't expect the same thing to happen to Knoblauch, whose calming disposition and poised demeanor suits the Oilers' star-studded cast.

Best odds: +1800 via BetMGM | Implied probability: 5.26%

My Jack Adams Award coach to watch

Peter DeBoer (+2800)

DeBoer's first season in Dallas couldn't have gone much better. He assimilated to proceedings in Big-D like a chameleon, guiding the Dallas Stars to the Central Division crown. The Stars were one of the most dynamic offenses, scoring the third-most goals per game (3.59).

The Stars won 17 of 21 games to finish the 2023-24 campaign, storming into the playoffs as one of the in-form teams. That facilitated a run to the Western Conference final, where they fell in six games to the Oilers.

A sophomore season in Dallas resembling his first will invariably have him among the front-runners to win the Jack Adams Award.

How to read Jack Adams Trophy futures odds

Reading Jack Adams Trophy odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
