Spencer Carbery has exceeded all expectations since taking the reins as the bench boss of the Washington Capitals, and he's the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award odds favorite at our NHL betting sites

Carbery's Capitals have been one of the pleasant surprises of the campaign. They boast the second-best points percentage (.720) while only trailing the Minnesota Wild (.760).

Meanwhile, John Hynes is responsible for the Wild's revitalization project, and he's getting the second-shortest Jack Adams Award odds. Scott Arniel, Dean Evason, and Craig Berube round out the five favorites.

Here are the latest Jack Adams notes:

  • Among the 10 favorites, Peter DeBoer's Dallas Stars and Rod Brind'Amour's Carolina Hurricanes are getting the shortest Stanley Cup odds
  • Five of the 10 favorites (Carbery, Arniel, Evason, Berube, Sheldon Keefe) took charge of their teams before the current campaign
  • DeBoer, our coach to watch, has seen his odds lengthen from +1600 to +3300 in the last month

Jack Adams favorites 2024-25

Spencer Carbery (+110)

Carbery has taken a Washington team that just last season was basically handed a playoff spot and posted the league's sixth-worst goal differential (minus-36), and he's turned the Capitals into an elite NHL squad.

The Capitals are now producing the best goal differential (plus-31) and the second-best points percentage and are starting to force themselves into the Stanley Cup contender conversation. They've even found a way to win four straight without Alexander Ovechkin, whose return from an injury isn't far away.

Carbery holds a slight edge over Hynes right now, who's also on a tear in Minnesota.

Best odds: +135 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 42.55%

My Jack Adams Award coach to watch

Peter DeBoer (+3300)

It's not that DeBoer is doing anything wrong. He's steered the Dallas Stars to the ninth-best points percentage at the quarter pole of the campaign. His Stars, who are among the Stanley Cup odds favorites, are steamrolling teams at home.

Unfortunately, he's up against a few coaches who are doing everything right, most notably Carbery. As long as teams like the Capitals, Wild—and to some extent, the Winnipeg Jets—continue to sizzle, DeBoer will be somewhat of an afterthought.

However, he's still in the mix and waiting for an opportunity if the others slip up because, rest assured, Dallas won't do the same.

His odds decreased from +1600 to +3500 in November, providing wonderful value if you're a DeBoer backer. A $10 winning bet would profit $350.

Best odds: +3500 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 2.78%

How to read Jack Adams Trophy futures odds

Reading Jack Adams Trophy odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a team winning the championship. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability.

Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on performance, injuries, trades, and betting patterns.
