Chiefs vs. Eagles Prediction, Super Bowl Picks & Odds Today: Mahomes To Improve Resume

Loathed, loved, down in the fourth quarter or up, favorites, underdogs, away or at home; none of it has mattered where the Kansas City Chiefs are concerned, and our Chiefs vs. Eagles prediction and Super Bowl picks expect Andy Reid's squad to win its fourth Super Bowl in the last six seasons.
On Sunday, Feb. 9, tune in to see history made when the Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans (6:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
Chiefs vs. Eagles prediction: Feb. 3
Here are our NFL picks for the Super Bowl with pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale.
- Best pick: Mahomes Over 29.5 rushing yards (-110 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐
- Against the spread pick: Chiefs -1.5 (-110 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Who will win the Super Bowl? Chiefs
Monday's best Super Bowl pick
Mahomes Over 29.5 rushing yards
Best odds: -110 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 52.38%
In three of his four Super Bowl appearances, Mahomes hit the Over on this prop. The only exception came against the 49ers at Super Bowl 54, where he fell just one yard short of eclipsing the total.
He also rushed for at least 43 yards in two of his last three playoff games.
While Mahomes has looked to escape the pocket more sparingly in the last three playoff runs, Mahomes is more trigger-happy on pushing the envelope in the Big Game, and I expect the same against Vic Fangio's defense on Sunday in this Chiefs vs. Eagles rematch.
Chiefs vs. Eagles spread prediction
Chiefs to cover the spread -1.5
Best odds: -110 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 52.38%
Down but rarely out. That's the adage Patrick Mahomes has lived by in the Super Bowl. In his four Super Bowl appearances, the loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Super Bowl 55 represents the only time he couldn't overcome a halftime deficit.
Mahomes went into halftime facing a deficit in his three other Super Bowl appearances. He ended up winning all of them. His first Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers was thanks to scoring 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points. Mahomes had two touchdown passes in the final quarter, which he replicated in the second half against the Eagles at Super Bowl 57.
Speaking of Super Bowl 57, the Chiefs trailed the Eagles 24-14 at halftime. Kansas City outscored Philly 17-8 in the fourth quarter, making it 38-8 in the fourth quarter of his first two Super Bowl triumphs. While the Chiefs weren't trailing entering the fourth quarter against San Francisco in last season's Super Bowl, they scored points on both possessions.
In his three Super Bowl wins, Mahomes led the Chiefs to points on nine of 10 fourth-quarter possessions.
Maybe he'll finally go into halftime with the lead. Based on his ability to overcome halftime deficits, he might prefer it if he doesn't. Either way, I can't foresee the Eagles getting in the way of destiny. We also took a deeper look at the current Chiefs postseason winning streak.
Who will win the Super Bowl?
The public discourse is, for the most part, against the Chiefs. While the Chiefs' online rancor is Exhibit A, the best example of the anti-Chiefs movement is seeing the Eagles to win as the most popular bet at BetMGM.
I don't think that matters, though. If anything, it will add even more fuel to the uncontrollable Chiefs' inner fire.
And while motivation won't be an issue for either team, the Chiefs have the opportunity to do something no other team has. Not only are they in line to win the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era, but they're accomplishing it in the salary-cap generation, where parity has never been so achievable.
Today's Super Bowl odds
Who is favored to win the Super Bowl?
Chiefs (-124 via FanDuel)
This line hasn't moved since the day after the NFC and AFC Championships. And it doesn't look like it will fluctuate in the remaining days leading up to Super Bowl 59. A winning $10 bet at FanDuel will profit $9.09.
