The Mercury have been taking advantage of a soft spot in their schedule to gain some momentum, defeating the Indiana Fever (without Caitlin Clark), the Connecticut Sun, and the Chicago Sky (without Angel Reese) during their current win streak.

Still, it’s hard not to believe in Phoenix’s potential as a championship spoiler, especially as this roster becomes more familiar with each other. This is a good opportunity for the Mercury to make a statement entering the home stretch of the regular season.

I’ve scoured our best sports betting sites, and only Fanatics and ESPN BET are offering first-quarter markets as of this writing. When those markets become more available, I like backing Phoenix at -140 or better for a four-star play.

The Dream crushed the Mercury on Aug. 1, suffering a 95-72 road loss. They've won three straight in response while playing some of their best basketball of the season.

Thomas has been leading the way while becoming the first player in WNBA history to record three consecutive triple-doubles. She’s also added eight steals and one block over that span, providing two-way impact.

The rest of the roster makes so much more sense when Thomas is playing at this level, as she can find open shooters on the perimeter.

Phoenix has produced a double-digit lead after the opening frame in two straight games, highlighting the importance of a fast start. I like the Mercury to do that again with revenge on their mind against the Dream.

Are you going to turn down a +475 price on Thomas to record a fourth straight triple-double? She’s fully entered the MVP conversation with this recent stretch while Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier is sidelined.

Thomas recorded a double-double against Atlanta on Aug. 1, but she finished seven assists shy of cashing this prop. I don’t see that happening again, as she averages 9.2 assists per game this year.
