While all the world's best golfers are in attendance for the third major of 2023, we're diving further down the oddsboard in search of our best U.S. Open sleeper picks.
As with any golf major, bettors are best advised to focus their U.S. Open picks near the top of the oddsboard, where Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Rory McIlroy are comfortably favored above the pack.
But where's the fun in that?
Our U.S. Open sleeper picks look to extract the best value from the U.S. Open odds in hopes of a big payday. Follow Neil Parker's U.S. Open prop bets for some added value.
Check out our breakdown of the best 2023 U.S. Open sleeper picks and long shots (odds via our best sports betting apps).
Best U.S. Open sleeper picks 2023 and predictions
Justin Rose (+5000)
The 42-year-old Rose is enjoying a resurgent PGA Tour season in which he has soared from No. 76 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) at the end of 2022 to No. 25 as of this week. Winner of the 2013 U.S. Open, Rose claimed his 11th PGA Tour win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, ending a four-year winless drought.
Rose also showed some of that form against much stronger fields in the first two majors of the year. He tied for 16th in the Masters and for ninth in the PGA Championship. He's had a well-rounded game this season, which includes 0.94 strokes gained: approach across his last 16 measured rounds. He excelled in that aspect, as well as on and around the greens, en route to an eighth-place finish in last week's RBC Canadian Open.
The Englishman has odds as low as +4000 this week, and while FanDuel lowered its odds from the initial +4800 to +4100, we can still get this elevated +5000 via Caesars and PointsBet as a strong value bet on our top U.S. Open long shot.
Alternate bet: Top English player (+350 via PointsBet)
Of our best sports betting sites offering this market, PointsBet's +350 odds are the best available, especially next to DraftKings' +260 offering. More adventurous bettors could pursue the top European or top Great Britain & Ireland markets, but the top English pool removes Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Viktor Hovland. Rose's top competition here is Tyrrell Hatton and reigning U.S. Open champ Matt Fitzpatrick.

Sungjae Im (+7000 via Caesars, PointsBet)
Im enters the week at No. 19 in the OWGR. It's the same position at which he finished last calendar year, even though he missed the cut at both the PGA Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge before a T-41 finish in the Memorial Tournament over his last three events.
Prior to that three-event rut, Im tied for seventh in the RBC Heritage and for eighth in the Wells Fargo Championship—two elevated PGA Tour events—and won on the Korean Tour. He also tied for sixth in The Players Championship and for 16th in the Masters. The pedigree is there for strong fields and difficult courses, but we're getting boosted odds due to his most recent results.
Going back even further, Im tied for 18th in The American Express and for fourth in the Farmers Insurance Open, showing a penchant for California golf.
Even amid the recent struggles, Im's still gaining strokes off the tee, on approach, and on and around the greens. He's also eighth this season in sand-save percentage and 46th in scrambling.
Im has the 24th-best odds to win this week at PointsBet, marking a discrepancy between his world ranking.
Alternate bet: Top rest of the world player (+1100 via PointsBet)
Of the books offering this prop market, bettors just need to be sure to avoid FanDuel and its +850 odds on Im. The favorites in this market are Australian's Cameron Smith and Jason Day, and Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama. Im has the fourth-best odds at each book but the separation is too great.
Si Woo Kim (+8000 via Caesars, PointsBet)
Kim's U.S. Open odds dropped across our best sportsbooks over the course of the weekend and into Tuesday morning, making this +8000 the best price on the board as of Wednesday evening. He's offered with odds as low as +5500 via FanDuel while entering the week at No. 31 in the world rankings.
Kim won The American Express in California in 2021 and played well on the PGA Tour's West Coast swing again this year with finishes of T-22 and T-25 in The American Express and Farmers Insurance Open, respectively. He has plenty of distance for U.S. Open conditions and has been the most accurate golfer off the tee across everyone's last 16 measured rounds.
Kim also ranks well in sand-save percentage and scrambling, as two staple key stats of this major championship.
Alternate bet: Top 10 (+600 via FanDuel)
The odds for Kim to finish in the top 10 vary considerably across the market, emphasizing the importance of shopping around. DraftKings, Caesars, and PointsBet have the odds set at +450, while BetMGM is offering +500.
