Sao Paulo Grand Prix predictions, expert picks & best bets

Here are my Sao Paulo Grand Prix best bets for Sunday's race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Pick to win Sao Paulo Grand Prix: Lando Norris ⭐⭐⭐

I backed Norris in my Sao Paulo Grand Prix predictions, and I'm even more confident after seeing him comfortably take pole position for today's sprint session. McLaren had the fastest car on the grid, with Norris edging out the Mercedes pair and teammate Oscar Piastri.

Verstappen, meanwhile, lamented a lack of grip after finishing down in sixth for Saturday's sprint session. While the weather could ultimately determine who takes pole position, I expect Norris to win if the conditions settle down for Sunday's race.

If qualifying were canceled, Norris would take pole position based on being first in the Drivers' Standings.

The Briton knows the importance of winning this race, as finishing first would consolidate his lead atop the Drivers' Standings with just three races remaining. When Norris trailed by nine points during the summer break, I backed him in my F1 prediction to overcome the deficit and win his first championship.

That position is reinforced as we enter Sunday's race. Norris finished second in Sao Paolo last year, his best previous result in Brazil. Based on how well he and his car performed in sprint qualifying at Interlagos, I expect him to take the checkered flag, weather permitting.

Of the best sports betting sites, the odds at FanDuel offer the best possible profit, where a winning $10 bet will profit $9.09.

Best odds: +130 via FanDuel

Best value bet to win Sao Paulo Grand Prix: Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐

The probability of poor weather for Saturday's qualifying has increased in recent days, with a major storm expected to hit Sao Paulo just before Saturday morning's sprint session. If things settle down enough, qualifying will go ahead.

Verstappen will benefit most from wet and windy conditions, as he emphatically demonstrated in last year's Sao Paulo Grand Prix, finishing first despite starting in 17th position. Heavy rain and gusty conditions wreaked havoc on most of the field, with Verstappen taking advantage in the most unforgettable fashion.

If poor weather extends into Sunday, which it isn't expected to at this stage, Verstappen will be the favorite. A winning $10 bet at Caesars will profit $22.

Best odds: +220 via Caesars

Best long shot to win Sao Paulo Grand Prix: George Russell ⭐⭐

I've pivoted from Charles Leclerc to Russell as my long-shot pick after witnessing Ferrari's struggles in sprint qualifying.

The data, according to F1.com, shows Ferrari's car 0.5 seconds slower than McLaren's on straightaways, a discernible gap that would prevent Leclerc from having the speed to challenge for his first race victory of the season.

Russell, meanwhile, impressed in sprint qualifying, finishing with the fourth-fastest time behind both McLaren drivers and teammate Kimi Antonelli. Prior to the F1 season returning to the Americas, Russell had a first and second-place finish. And he secured fourth place in Sao Paulo last year after winning the Brazil Grand Prix in 2022.

Russell's odds to win that race at the best sports betting apps range from +1200 to +1400, with DraftKings providing the best value. A winning $10 bet will profit $140.

Best odds: +1400 via DraftKings

Best prop bet for Sao Paulo Grand Prix: Max Verstappen to win qualifying ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This pick is based on the inclement conditions expected on Saturday in Sao Paulo. While this morning's storm is expected to subside for the afternoon's qualifying session, rain and windy conditions remain a distinct possibility. That will open the door for Verstappen to capitalize.

A winning $10 bet at FanDuel will profit $20.

Best odds: +200 via FanDuel
