In theory, this is a dream matchup for Skubal, facing a Rangers lineup that ranks in the bottom 10 in strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. However, I expect the fact that the Rangers rank 28th in slugging and 29th in BABIP against southpaws to force Skubal to challenge hitters earlier in the count, lowering his ceiling for strikeouts.

If we are being nit-picky about Skubal in this start, his winning percentage, ERA, and WHIP are all worse on four days’ rest compared to when he pitches on five or six days of rest.

So while his All-Star Game start may not have been anything more than a simple throw day, it still raises some doubt that he will be as effective as usual, having last toed the rubber in some capacity on Tuesday.

When Texas announced that Nathan Eovaldi wouldn't feature tonight due to back tightness, it created much more optimism for Detroit’s hitters, now facing Jacob Latz.

Latz has allowed a batting average and OPS 70 and 145 points higher, respectively, to right-handed batters. And Torkelson leads all Tigers hitters (min. 35 ABs) with a 1.027 OPS against southpaws.

Torkelson is amid a four-game RBI drought, but the +160 odds for him to drive in a run at bet365 are a great value, considering he has still done so in half of the 14 July games.

The full-game total for this Sunday Night Baseball contest only rose from 6.5 to 7 runs after the news of Texas’ pitching change, but that only reflects Detroit’s likelihood for more offense and changed nothing as far as the Rangers’ implied team total goes.

These odds for the Under on Seager’s total bases are still a decent value at -165 odds, despite him performing historically well with six hits in nine career at-bats against Skubal.

But Seager is slashing just .225/.295/.450 against left-handed pitchers this season, and I am backing this Under with five stars of confidence despite half of his 18 hits in July being of the extra-base variety.
