Our leading MLB prop picks and best bets for Monday are based on the top MLB odds. It's a loaded 15-game slate as Major League Baseball teams around the country will honor the tragic events from Sept. 11, 2001.

The 93-win Atlanta Braves became the first team to clinch a playoff spot with their win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. They enter Monday’s doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies with a magic number of six to clinch the NL East.

The only two teams not in action Monday are the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers, who begin a three-game series in Detroit on Tuesday.

Here are our top MLB prop picks and best bets for Monday (odds via our best MLB betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Monday's MLB prop picks

Player prop: Charlie Morton Over 2.5 earned runs allowed vs. Phillies (+120 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Braves righty Charlie Morton takes the mound for the first game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Phillies, which means he has an excellent chance to be extended longer than usual to save the bullpen. Morton ranks in the top four of all NL pitchers in ERA+ and WAR, and though he has pitched to a 2.58 ERA over his last seven starts, he is somewhat overvalued given his competition in that span.

Morton has made two starts since July 31 against teams that rank in the top 11 of MLB in runs scored, and those were by far his two roughest outings. When facing the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, Morton was tagged for seven runs in 8 1/3 innings while walking seven and striking out seven. In his other five starts, Morton has a 1.20 ERA, though in one of those starts, he overcame seven walks to hold the New York Mets scoreless over five innings.

The Phillies will not be as forgiving, and three of the top four hitters in their lineup (Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Alec Bohm) each either have a .400 batting average or an OPS of .980 or better in their career against Morton.

Among our best sports betting apps, Caesars (+108) and DraftKings (+115) offer plus-money odds for this wager, but bet365 has the best value.

Player prop: Pete Alonso Over 0.5 RBIs vs. Diamondbacks (+145 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The moneyline odds are curious for this matchup, as the New York Mets are -135 favorites over an Arizona Diamondbacks team that occupies a wild card spot after winning back-to-back series and five of their last seven games. And since the game also has a high projected total (9.0 runs), we are backing New York’s most feared hitter to contribute offensively.

Pete Alonso ranks in the top three in the majors with 43 home runs and 103 RBIs and entered Sunday tearing the cover off the baseball over the previous seven days, with a 1.267 slugging percentage and 1.790 OPS. He faces Arizona Diamondbacks righty Zach Davies, who has a 5.80 ERA over his last seven starts despite two of those being quality starts.

This is a solid four-star play, as Davies has allowed a .297 OBA and 1.66 WHIP to right-handed batters and is very susceptible to the top of batting orders, with a 10.80 ERA in the first inning and fourth inning when he faces lineups for a second time.

With Caesars as low as +127 odds for this wager, bet365’s +145 odds for the Over look like a steal in comparison.

Player prop: Chris Bassitt to record win vs. Rangers (+190 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐

The Texas Rangers have had a mediocre record of 26 wins and 25 losses since the All-Star Break, but their recent performance has been particularly challenging, with only 2 wins in their last 15 games against teams with winning records. As they travel to face the Toronto Blue Jays, the Blue Jays are riding high on a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals, during which they gave up just seven runs. The Blue Jays are eager to extend their current winning streak to match their longest streak of four wins in the second half of the season.

Toronto has the right man on the mound to lead it to victory, as Chris Bassitt has gone eight innings in each of his last two starts (something that has not been done by a Blue Jays pitcher since 2016, per Sportsnet), allowing just one earned run on 10 hits. Bassitt’s 18 quality starts are tied for the second-most in the AL, and he should have another solid outing against a Rangers team that ranks 28th in runs scored in road games since Aug. 1.

Caesars and DraftKings offer +156 and +175 odds, respectively, for Bassitt to record a win, so we are headed to bet365 for the best return.

Monday's MLB game picks

Moneyline: Red Sox ML vs. Yankees (-124 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Optimists will say the New York Yankees are riding high after erasing two different deficits in a 13-inning 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. Pessimists will say the Yankees did not record their first hit until the 11th inning. In addition, New York has used 14 relievers in the last three games, and a tired bullpen is never a good thing when heading into hitter-friendly Fenway Park.

Boston Red Sox righty Kutter Crawford ranks second among the team’s starters in WAR, and his only start against the Yankees this year was an 8-1 blowout victory during which the only hit he allowed over six innings was a solo home run. Boston is just 2-5 in Crawford’s last seven starts, but these are fair moneyline odds considering New York is 10 games under .500 (16-26) against the AL East this season, including losing eight of nine against Boston.
