Very few people in the christian world, and certainly not the ancient/eastern christians would ever say that God made anything in order to be praised.

Please explain why God created man. For fellowship? To be heirs to the Kingdom of heaven? What's the purpose of life on earth? To weed out the bad humans? Why is it the only ones that God approves to join him are those who praise and worship him? To say that God didn't create man in order to be praised, leaves one to believe God created man to punish and torture. If you believe the Bible, then it's either one or the other, or both.

He was arrested and punished for sedition, not blasphemy as the gospels suggest. this is a good post,it amazes me how little is made of his political stances it's almost like they made jesus a god to muddle his political actions in the way they do with the presidents today,and then in politics today they do it opposite by focusing on the mans morality instead of his commercial beliefs

I can't believe this thread is still alive!
It's irrelevant to debate 'faith'. People almost never challenge their faith. It just doesn't happen much... But I suppose if that helps you get through the day, it's all good. It's not a bad thing to believe in crazy things to help you get through the day, either way your crap stinks and you're going to die anyway. Why should it matter? What, you wanna be right? What if you're wrong? What if any of us is wrong? Why not fight for what matters - just being and being alive. It doesn't matter anyway... We're all crazy.

I don't like the religious battle against 'non-believers' and the perversion of their own scriptures for political or monetary gain - although, that corruption will never die with the current climate. Seriously, religion/faith is one of the biggest $ makers in the world - just like 'pop self help psychology nits' like Dr Phil or Oprah, etc. What is the difference? Both talk crazy stories and they get paid off of their consumers. Imagine an 'athiest' brainiac micro biologist being President in the US. Imagine someone that watches evolution in the lab every day making decisions for people? O M F G. Yes, they'd still be bought/sold by interests that helped them get elected. What would change? Nothing. See why religious or non religious affiliation is meaningless, at least in leadership?

I am loving the new breed of quasi-athiests that are not afraid to look upon people of 'faith' as 'insane'. It's something that is long overdue and very fair. Wow, you believe in something. I believe I will wake up tommorrow and my poo is going to stink really bad. Is that good enough for <insert Deity>? I will not forget every slighted comment or slight of my character because I didn't go to church or believe what 'everyone else does'. Didn't leaving high school make all that irrelevant? Why would you want to put yourself into a group to make yourself stronger rather than challenging something that literally amounts to 0 in your LIVING human form? I think that's cowardly and un-human. Although, most humans want to do that, because they are wusses. People that DO NOT judge and believe are as respectable as people that don't believe and keep it to themselves, IMO. Even though there's an asston of corrupt churches in the world - there ARE some that do follow what they preach and survive only to help people with impossible issues on many levels (including charity).

I really like what Stephen Hawking had to say on the topic - the search for science makes 'religion' irrelevant.
The big question faith or science gives no answer to is if there is something bigger out there, then how did that come to be? How can me even typing this crap even exist? And if it was God that made it happen, then how did God come to be?
I just think faith is pointless and scienctific effort to make scientific effort to find the truth pointless - there's still a MUCH larger question.

This statement is incredibly confusing. Granted... most gamblers LOSE and maybe even half of them are Atheists at most... but what percentage of Professional Gamblers do you think believe in God? I can assure you that the majority of Professional Poker players are Atheists. That's just for starters. If you're relying on Reason and Logic which is paramount when it comes to gambling... it helps to be an Atheist if you want to have any chance of winning.
