mr.play is available in Canada as a remote gambling operator under the regulation of the Malta Gaming Authority. 

Like many gambling sites, mr.play isn’t available globally. It’s currently restricted to players in China, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Hungary, and India, amongst a few other countries. 

Sports Leagues to Bet On

mr.play features a good range of sports on offer, with a significant selection of markets for each.

NFL Betting

mr.play provides NFL bettors in Canada with plenty of opportunities to profit on their favourite teams. Pre-game markets include moneylines, spreads, totals, and quarter- or half-specific markets, while players can also bet on any of mr.play’s in-game offerings.

As for the odds offered, you’ll be paying anywhere from 10 to 20 cents of vig depending on the betting market. That’s standard with sportsbooks ranked in this tier.

NBA Betting

Fans of NBA betting will appreciate mr.play, as they offer ML, spread, and total plays for every game on the schedule. You can also wager on quarterly or halftime options and daily player props for points, rebounds, assists, and three-pointers made. If you like alternate spreads and totals, then mr.play is a great option. Player props are limited however as you’ll only be able to play them in a same-game parlay.

College Football

U.S. college football betting is seeing increased interest in Canada, and mr.play is ready to serve an eager audience with moneylines, spreads, and totals for most Division I NCAA football games during the season. 

As with its NFL markets, mr.play prices the majority of NCAA football spreads and totals right in line with the standard across most Canadian sports betting sites.

College Basketball

mr.play has bettors covered when it comes to NCAA basketball betting, offering traditional markets throughout the regular season and conference tournaments. And as with most providers, mr.play steps things up a notch before March Madness tips off. However, anything more exotic than an ML, spread, or O/U bet and you might have to look elsewhere.

NHL Betting

I was disappointed with the effort mr.play clearly put into its NHL offerings. Not only are the prices not up to other sportsbooks like William Hill, but the number of available markets to bet on was also limited. Much like NBA player props, you can only bet on popular player props like anytime goalscorer in a same-game parlay. And even then, it’s the only player prop available!

MLB Betting

Take a swing at betting on MLB at mr.play. The sportsbook offers comprehensive MLB markets for pre-game bets (ML, runline, total) and in-game action (five innings ML/RL, player props, team props). 

Other Sports Leagues

Bettors will not get bored on mr.play, as the options for other sports outside of the ones we just covered are numerous.

Mr.play is an excellent choice if you’re into betting on soccer. Everything from standard ML, handicap, and O/U bets are on tap as well as specific half betting, total corners, double chance, halftime/fulltime, and they even have the option for betting on anytime goalscorers! All the big five European soccer leagues are covered, but so are the lower leagues from those countries as well as pro leagues from Bulgaria, Colombia, Chile, and numerous other countries. 

As for more exotic betting opportunities, mr.play has these as well. Customers can wager on bandy, boxing, cricket, cycling, darts, Formula 1, floorball, gaelic football, handball, horse racing, greyhounds, MMA, golf, rugby, snooker, table tennis, volleyball, water polo, and winter sports such as biathlon and ski jumping. Esports fans are not forgotten at mr.play, as the sportsbooks allow users to bet on DOTA 2, League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Valorant. You can even bet on UK and US politics such as who will be the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024.

Online Betting Experience

Website Experience

The desktop website for mr.play has room for improvement. The actual layout of the site is one that bettors have come to expect, with sports and leagues on the left hand side, available bets and odds in the middle, and your bet slip appearing in the bottom right corner with your selected bets. But the site is so cluttered that it can make it hard to navigate at points.

First off, the in-play bets on the left hand side are a cool feature but the soccer ball cuts off the team names. That’s just poor design. The white, blue, and grey colour scheme could also be better, and the small text especially in the available sports menu could take some getting used to. But the search option works well to find whatever bet you’re looking for, and the “highlights option on the top menu makes it easier to find the big games from popular sports.

Mobile Betting and Betting App

Mr.play does not currently have a mobile app for Canadian customers. 

It does however have a working mobile site which does a good job of mimicking the desktop experience, taking you straight to the live betting markets for easy convenience. But the giant poker chip that appears when a page is loading is obnoxious.

Live Betting

If you want to make a game more interesting by placing a live bet, mr.play has plenty of options for you. Everything from soccer, basketball, hockey, tennis, darts, and even eSports like Counter-Strike are available.

Casino, Poker, & Other Gaming Options

Mr.play puts a lot of emphasis on its online casino, perhaps more than its sportsbook. Despite that, it has a limited amount of options especially compared to the other sites we’ve reviewed. They only have 57 video slots, 13 roulette games, and 14 blackjack games. It has just one baccarat game and no poker games. 

Bettors who value a robust online casino with their sportsbook will be better suited to other operators.

mr.play History

Mr.play began life purely as a casino, but it expanded considerably over the years. The online betting site launched in 2017 and two years later in 2019, its offering was expanded with the addition of a new sportsbook.

Players are mostly impartial or positive about mr.play. Praise goes towards the large selection of sports, and easy to claim sign up bonuses. However, bettors do not like the layout on both desktop and mobile compared to other sportsbooks.

Why Choose mr.play?

Mr.play is not a popular spot for Canadian sports bettors, and it’s easy to see why. The site's menus are poorly organized, the casino options are limited, and the fact that player props aren’t available for single bets are big knocks against it. 

If all you care about is betting on straight-up wins, spreads, and totals, mr.play may provide some value as a secondary sportsbook. Otherwise, other operators should probably interest you more.
