💰 Best World Cup prediction today

France -1.5 vs. Sweden (-125)

Really, for France, the tournament is just getting started. France rolled through the group stage with 10 goals scored, piling up 48 shots and 91 touches in the opposition box. While a spread in a knockout game isn't entirely desirable, this Sweden squad that allowed seven in the first three games of the tournament is in for a rough ride.

Sweden was already in trouble on the backend against a team that features Golden Boot candidates Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, but losing Isak Hien in their group-stage finale is a major blow to the backline's physicality. France has averaged over three goals per game, and I think they'll hit that mark again today, which would cover this spread even if Sweden sneaks one through.

💵 SBR Edge: the xG difference

It's just one measurement of how things are going for a team, but there is a stark xG difference between these teams coming into today's clash. France logged a plus-8 goal differential in the Group Stage and a 3.1 xG differential; Sweden finished with a zero goal differential (which is amazing given they had a 5-1 victory) and did so on a -1.1 xG.

There is enough of a gulf between what these teams are creating and what these teams are allowing to back France to win by 2+. If you're after even more France plays, our Gordon Brunt breaks it down in his France vs. Sweden prediction.

🔥 More World Cup predictions for Tuesday

Ivory Coast vs. Norway both teams to score - yes (-143)

It hardly needs stating how powerful Norway's offense is. Erling Haaland, whom our Gary Pearson picks as a goalscorer in his Ivory Coast vs. Norway prediction, is arguably the world's best striker. He has led the Premier League in goalscoring in three of the last four seasons and crossed the 20-goal plateau in four straight seasons. On top of that, Ivory Coast's defense is without Wilfred Singo, a major blow to the backline. The return of Evan Ndicka is a boost, but after missing the Group Stage, his fitness may be in question.

Norway is also not without its defensive injuries, as Julian Ryerson won't be available, and there is a chance Torbjorn Heggem could be limited due to a muscle injury. Ivory Coast registered seven big chances across the Group Stage, breaking down the defenses of Ecuador (two goals allowed) and Germany (four goals allowed in groups, one in Round of 32). Transitional play through Diallo and Pepe should be able to find the net against one of the tournament's softest remaining defenses.

Ivory Coast vs. Norway odds: Ivory Coast (+255) | Draw (+240) | Norway (+115)

Mexico vs. Ecuador first half draw (-110)

From breaking down two of the softest remaining defenses (Sweden, Norway) to breaking down two of the strongest defensive squads in this year's field. Mexico hasn't allowed a goal yet in the tournament (1.5 xG conceded) while Ecuador has allowed two (2.7 xG conceded).

This game will be a chess match. Ecuador scored just two goals in the Group Stage and will be looking to pick its spots very carefully. Mexico scored five of its six goals in the second half. Both managers will prioritize caution in the early going and hope to capitalize late, hoping a 1-0 line gets them to the next stage. I wouldn't be shocked if this was squared up at 90 minutes, but I prefer the 45-minute line to avoid risking the home team getting over the line in the waning moments.
