📡 SBR Edge: Best NRFI Bets Today for Tuesday (May 19)

The wins keep comin' and they don't stop, as we've pushed our record to 22-9 over the last half-month, sitting pretty with close to eight units in our pockets this season. Tonight, we’re locking in on the Brewers vs. Cubs and White Sox vs. Mariners matchups to grab six quick outs. The formula has been working, and we’re looking to stack a handful of zeroes once again.

💰 Best NRFI bets today for Tuesday

Brewers vs. Cubs NRFI (-150) - 7:10 p.m. ET

  • Jacob Misiorowski (2.12 ERA) vs. Ben Brown (1.60 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Brewers (23-22) vs. Cubs (31-17)

This play jumped off the page to me as our two-unit NRFI play. We've got two hot pitchers who throw particularly well in this matchup, and a large sample size to hold on to. Misiorowski strikes this Cubs lineup out at a 33% rate across 56 plate appearances, which includes Pete Crow-Armstrong, who's 0-for-7 with five Ks against The Miz. On the other side, Brown is equally as effective against Milwaukee, holding them to a .182 xBA over 58 plate appearances. He's held down Christian Yelich and Brice Turang to a 3-for-16 mark collectively, striking them both out over 50% of the time. That will play today.

White Sox vs. Mariners NRFI (-125) - 9:40 p.m. ET

  • Anthony Kay (4.61 ERA) vs. Bryce Miller (3.38 ERA)
  • NRFI records: White Sox (21-26) vs. Mariners (20-29)

I'd price this play closer to -150 betting odds, which is why I'm taking it in the first place. Yes, we don't have the sample size we usually love to see, but both pitchers have respectable numbers in this specific matchup, and Kay has allowed a run in the first frame just twice in almost two months. While Miller is just getting his feet wet this year, none of the top three hitters in Chicago's lineup has had an at-bat against him in their career. Advantage us. Let's get six simple outs.

💡 How I'm betting NRFI picks today (May 19)

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

No matter the day, I look at how a pitcher matches up specifically to the lineup he's taking on. What's their expected batting average against him? What's their strikeout rate? What's each team's NRFI record? More specifically, how do the top three batters fare against a specific pitcher? These are all thoughts that need to run through your mind before placing a high-variance bet like a NRFI, and slide your units accordingly.

❓ NRFI betting FAQ

What does NRFI mean in baseball betting?

NRFI stands for "No Run First Inning." It's a popular MLB bet that neither team will score in the first inning of a game, and the bet settles after just six outs (three per half-inning).

What does YRFI mean?

YRFI stands for "Yes Run First Inning" - the opposite of an NRFI. This MLB prop bet cashes if there's at least one run by either team in the first inning.

What should I look for when betting NRFIs?

Each team's starting pitcher is the biggest factor in cashing a NRFI bet, but you should also focus on each team's NRFI records (home vs. away) and each lineup's first-inning tendencies. Recent form can also play a bigger role than full-season numbers.,
