My best MLB player props today back the Los Angeles Dodgers to complete the sweep of the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Phillies and improve their World Series odds while punching a ticket to the NLCS.

I'm covering all four games with my MLB picks from today’s AL and NL Divisional Series slate, with three pitcher props and two batter props making up the five-pick portfolio.

💵 MLB Play of the Day

My MLB player props play of the day backs Julio Rodriguez to go Over his hits, runs, and RBI total, as he's been sizzling hot and can get on base for the strength of the Mariners' lineup behind him.

💰 MLB prop bets for Oct. 8

Our MLB player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.

⬆️ Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-116) ⭐⭐⭐

Seattle Mariners centerfielder Julio Rodriguez has gone over this total for hits, runs, and RBIs in two of his first three playoff games this postseason, with six combined in Game 1 and three in Game 2.

Rodriguez should now get a couple of at-bats against Tigers righty Casey Mize, who allowed a higher slugging and OPS to right-handed batters, and he posted a worse HR/9 rate at Comerica Park than during road starts this season.

The three-time All-Star should also enjoy plenty of opportunities to score when reaching base while hitting in front of Jorge Polanco, who has produced a 1.250 OPS against Mize, with four of his six hits going for extra bases. It’s a significant reason why we backed the second baseman with our MLB HR predictions today.

If Rodriguez records at least some combination of two hits, runs, or RBI, my $10 wager through DraftKings’ -116 price at 53.70% implied odds would net $8.62 in profit.

⬇️ Jameson Taillon Under 1.5 earned runs (-185) ⭐⭐⭐

This is likely to be the most significant contrarian play among my best MLB player props today, as the Milwaukee Brewers have tagged Chicago Cubs pitching for 16 runs and 24 hits through the first two games of their series. But the game total being as low as 6.5 at several of the best sports betting sites suggests the weather for this afternoon at Wrigley Field should suppress some of the offense.

Jameson Taillon pitched to a 3.05 ERA at home this season while finishing both August and September with a 1.64 ERA or better.

He needs to carefully navigate the duo of Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich, who are a combined 20-for-50 hitting with six extra-base hits against the righty. But he's been successful against Brice Turang and William Contreras atop the Brewers' lineup, as the two sluggers are batting a combined .182 (8-for-44) against him.

Taillon should benefit from the shadows creeping into the infield and affecting Milwaukee hitters after a late-afternoon start. But I'm also backing this play with three stars of confidence because he could be given a quick hook during an elimination game.

The best sports betting apps are setting the Under on Taillon’s 0.5 earned runs at +141 with 41.49% implied odds. But I'm going the safer route with the best price on the Under of 1.5 through BetMGM, where a $10 winning wager would return $5.41 in profit.

⬇️ Cam Schlittler Under 4.5 strikeouts (+110) ⭐⭐⭐

New York Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler’s strikeout odds will be one of the most popular player props of the day, as he's coming off a career-high 12 strikeouts across eight innings during the rookie's first postseason start.

That strikeout total passed Don Newcombe for fourth-most in a single start from a rookie pitcher in postseason history. Schlittler also became just the second Yankees rookie pitcher with 10-plus strikeouts in a playoff start, and he tied the third-most punchouts during a postseason start in franchise history.

Schlittler used his sinker 23.4% of the time during that start against the Boston Red Sox, up from 7.1% in the regular season. And his average fastball velocity was 98.9 mph, up from 98.0 previously.

He generated 18 whiffs on his fastball, which was tied for the most in a postseason game during the pitch-tracking Era (since 2008). But the Blue Jays also produced more home runs as a team (eight) than strikeouts (seven) across the first two games of this series. The ceiling for Schlitter’s strikeouts is considerably lower then, and I'm selling high after his historic first playoff start.

I'm opting for the plus-money odds at a 47.62% implied probability through DraftKings, as the Under of 5.5 strikeouts at the other books offering the best sportsbook promos is juiced as high as -174. A $10 winning wager through DraftKings' +110 odds would net $11 in profit.
