Updated PGA Championship Odds & Betting Favorites: Favorites Scheffler, McIlroy Atop 156-Man Field

The updated PGA Championship odds show Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy (+500) atop the odds leaderboard, with Bryson DeChambeau (+950) and defending champion Xander Schauffele (+2200) in the mix. 

The PGA Championship started on Thursday morning and runs through Sunday, with Justin Thomas, the previous Wanamaker Trophy winner in Charlotte, starting Round 1 at +3500.

McIlroy most recently won at Quail Hollow last year and is looking for his fifth victory there, while Scheffler makes his tournament debut at the Charlotte course.

Scheffler remains locked into the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) after last lapping the field en route to victory in The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The two-time Masters champion will make his competitive debut at Quail Hollow Club this week, an apparent disadvantage over the likes of McIlroy, Schauffele, and Thomas, in particular.

That said, Scheffler skipped last week's Signature Event in Philadelphia to begin preparations for Quail Hollow. Quail Hollow demands driving distance and precise iron play. That's likely to make Scheffler a strong course fit, as it so clearly is for McIlroy.

Rory McIlroy

Best odds: +500 via BetMGM ($10 pays $50) | Implied probability: 16.67%

McIlroy tied for seventh in the Truist Championship as his first solo tournament since his Masters victory and completion of the career grand slam. That also ended McIlroy's much-discussed major drought, and he should now be playing in a major championship relatively pressure-free for the first time in over a decade.

That, coupled with McIlroy's resounding career success at Quail Hollow - victories in 2010, 2015, 2021, and last year - make him my most confident bet to win the 2025 PGA Championship.

Bryson DeChambeau

Best odds: +950 via DraftKings ($10 pays $95) | Implied probability: 9.52%

DeChambeau played four career events at Quail Hollow prior to his departure to the LIV Golf Invitational Series. He finished fourth in 2018 and tied for ninth in 2021, and he previously tied for 33rd the last time the PGA Championship was at Quail Hollow.

DeChambeau's coming off a victory in LIV Golf's Korea event, and he'll be motivated after playing alongside McIlroy in the final round of the Masters.

Jon Rahm

Best odds: +2000 via BetMGM ($10 pays $200) | Implied probability: 4.76%

Rahm tied for 58th the last time the PGA Championship was at Quail Hollow, and he missed the cut in his last appearance at the venue before joining the LIV Series. I'll be avoiding Rahm as an outright bet, considering he hasn't finished better than T-48 in the last three runnings of this major championship.

Xander Schauffele

Best odds: +2200 via DraftKings ($10 pays $220) | Implied probability: 4.35%

Schauffele won his first major championship a year ago at Valhalla and went on to be golf's only two-time major winner last year with his British Open victory. He was the runner-up in the Wells Fargo Championship each of the last two years at Quail Hollow, but he missed the cut in the 2017 PGA Championship at the same venue.

Justin Thomas

Best odds: +2200 via DraftKings ($10 pays $220) | Implied probability: 4.35%

Thomas tied for second in the Truist Championship and will now look to win his second Wanamaker Trophy at Quail Hollow Club (and third total). However, Thomas has just one top-10 finish in a major since his 2022 PGA Championship victory and he hasn't finished better than T-14 at Quail Hollow since his first major victory. 

Ludvig Aberg

Best odds: +2800 via DraftKings ($10 pays $280) | Implied probability: 3.45%

Like Scheffler, Aberg will make his tournament debut at Quail Hollow this week. The 25-year-old claimed his second PGA Tour win this year, but he'll make just his second appearance in the PGA Championship following a missed cut last year at Valhalla. Still, his driving distance and iron play should have him well suited to the course and the major championship conditions.
