Olympic Men's Golf Odds & Expert Picks: Best Bets for Le Golf National
Xander Schauffele will attempt to defend the gold medal on the heels of his British Open win two weeks ago. The two-time major winner in 2024 trails only fellow American Scottie Scheffler by the Olympic Men's Golf odds with the tournament taking place at Le Golf National in Paris this week.
Three of the four Americans in the 60-man Olympic men's golf field are within the top five spots on the outright oddsboard for the gold medal. Scheffler's +360 odds to win represent an implied win probability of 21.74%.
This week's winner at Le Golf National can join Schauffele and 2016 gold medalist Justin Rose with this being the third running since 1904 of golf as an Olympic sport.
The men's golf tournament in Paris will begin Thursday at 3 a.m. ET, with coverage available on NBC. Round 4 is scheduled to be played Sunday.

Olympic Men's Golf favorite
Scottie Scheffler (+360)
Scheffler remains No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) entering this week. Though Schauffele is beginning to apply pressure in the FedEx Cup odds following his second major win of the year, Scheffler remains the leader and is the rightful favorite in this competition as a six-time winner this PGA Tour season.
Scheffler finished T-7 in the British Open. His putting was dreadful for much of the week and an embarrassing tee shot on the 72nd hold knocked him a couple of spots further down the leaderboard. However, he ranked second to Schauffele in strokes gained: approach and was third in SG: tee-to-green over four rounds.
A $10 bet returns a profit of just $36 with a gold medal win at these odds. As such, Scheffler draws a pass for me. Two of three golf medalists at the Tokyo Olympics closed with outright odds of +15000.

Olympic Men's Golf expert picks
Ludvig Aberg to win (+1200)
Aberg enters this week at No. 4 in the OWGR but he's sixth on the outright oddsboard this week.
The Swedish star won his first PGA Tour event last November and was also a member of the victorious Team Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup. He finished second in the Masters and tied for 12th in the U.S. Open but missed the cut in the PGA Championship and The Open.
I want to back a European to be the Olympic gold medal winner. Aberg won the 2023 Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland and should be able to find similar success at the French course and in comparable conditions.
Aberg has struggled with his putting of late, but he remains among the best in the world from tee to green and on approach.
A winning $10 bet at these +1200 odds would return a profit of $120.
Odds: +1200 | Implied probability: 7.69%
Thorbjorn Olesen to finish top 10 (+450)
Olesen is appearing in his second Olympic Men's Golf tournament after finishing T-30 in 2016 and not playing in 2020.
The representative of Denmark has an excellent course history at Le Golf National as a member of the DP World Tour, as the course annually hosts the Open de France. Olesen finished third in 2017 and 10th last year, and he's averaged 1.87 true strokes gained on the field per round at this venue.
Olesen claimed his eighth European Tour/DP World Tour win in January when he beat Rasmus Hojgaard and the rest of the field by six strokes in the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. He missed the cut in five of 14 PGA Tour events this year but just once in his last seven outings.
His putter and short game were excellent across his last three tournaments - including his T-43 finish in The Open. I trust those skills to be extra meaningful at a venue where few in this field have meaningful competitive experience.
Odds: +450 | Implied probability: 18.18%

Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Alex Noren, and Thorbjorn Olesen were the top point-getters that year who are in this Olympic field. No members of the 2018 U.S. team are on the four-man Olympic roster.
